Re: What have you done today thread?
They do something call First Tracks here where you can go up in the lift way before opening. See the sunrise/sunrise colours, 5 min talk about the mountains and which resorts are in which direction. Then ski down, go back to the lift, up a second time. Ski to a restaurant part way down, have breakfast and then you can head to the lift in time for official first lifts at 9am
Today's wasn't in my bit of the resort. So I ski toured up from where I am for an hour. Skied down to the lift in Bellecote for First Tracks. Waited a bit - regretted not having another layer in my back pack! Eventually we go up on the lift. Pretty pics at the top and then wait. And wait! Turns out they were waiting for 4 late people. They don't normally wait for people. Ok. Then - 30 minutes of chat about mountains, rescue, avalanche etc etc.
By the time we set of I was soooooo cold!! Then we had some really slow people, so took forever to get back to the lift. I didn't have time to go back up as we didn't get down until 8.40. (We are normally in the restaurant before then!). So I had to ski down to the bus stop to get the bus back to Centre, grab a slice of bread and rush out to the lesson!
But - after a disappointing start to the day, the lesson was freaking awesome. Same instructor that taught me to ski 11 years ago. We have a good friendship and he can get away with being a bit mean cos we have fun anyway. My knees (and legs to a lesser degree) are knackered. But I've learnt a lot about which bits of my technique need work. Have a handful of exercises to do when I'm skiing to try and drill in the technique properly. Need more determination. Need to get my stance better. Think I need stronger ankles cos sometimes my skis are not as controlled as they should be!! LOL
Ok, I did have a fall. But as he said, if you are going to fall best do it whilst learning and with someone to look after you than by getting things wrong on your own!!!
And the best bit - he said I was a really good skier. Just need to improve the little bits of technique we worked on which will help with confidence which will help with technique!!! But I will keep remembering that he says I'm a good skier!!

That’s all sorts of rubbish, have a good last few days and remember the good times(sorry if that sounds a bit trite).

Clearly creamed a massive dog shit walking from work to the railway station, only noticed once on the train and had to put up with the stench for an hour

Are the repairs for the Triumph already paid for, I need to know if it's worth 'dibbing'?Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 5:55 pm Finally got Covid!

Re: What have you done today thread?
After the shit show from UPS that I covered in the Insignificant things thread, today I drove to Verbier in Switzerland, dropped off a set of skis and then drove back to Courchevel.
I'm not complaining though, there was loads of awesome scenery, decent roads, no traffic and my boss is bunging me a meal out as a thank you

Re: What have you done today thread?
Today I have mainly got nothing done and wasted much time. Dentist first then I thought i'd get my utterly filthy car cleaned on the way home. Huge queue and I was there over an hour. Back home to get the MT-07 into the garden so I can fit some new bits to it. I had to shuffle the other bikes around though and the Tmax battery just didn't have enough in it. It was also up against the back gate so nothing was going anywhere until that was charged up! Eventually got everything moved around but now got work calls and demands for me to actually do something. MT-07 mods look like being postponed until tomorrow now. A bit of a bastard really as I was looking forward to getting it all done today. Ho hum...

Re: What have you done today thread?
Went for a run at lunchtime. My route takes me from St. Katherine's Docks to Shadwell Basin. A while back they put an outdoor gym there, so I break up my run with some dips, pull ups, etc. Today there's guy putting out medicine balls, TRX straps, etc. so we stat chatting. He tells me there are free training classes on during the week at various times, and if I'd be interested. My cynicism got the better of me (hey, I'm a hard-nosed banker), so I had to ask what the catch was. Turns out he works for the local church, St Paul's, Shadwell, as well as being a qualified Personal Trainer. He went on to explain that it was the church that had worked to get the outdoor gym put in and they now wanted to use it for community-based training. Fair play to them.

Whenever I say 'Shadwell', it's in that voice.
I thought it was only one who remembered that.

Re: What have you done today thread?
Popped out on the bike today, after cleaning the brakes, just to make sure that I can still ride (I can ). My bike has it's first MOT tomorrow - I'd be very surprised if it failed.
I went to The Six Bells, Chiddingly as it's far enough to be classed as a ride, but not far enough to risk hypothermia. There's no internet connection at all there so I sat in a corner with a coffee trying to not to engage, I was nearly successful - someone wanted to know what I thought of the Street Triple - my advise was to get an old one as I've had nuffin but trouble that one (clutches, cams, clutches, more clutches). While remembering what it's like to have no internet and actually having to think to keep myself entertained, Brer Rabbit suddenly came to mind - my Nan used to tell us the stories at bed time, from memory, not from a book. I Googled Brer Rabbit when I got home and it seems to have been claimed by the Americans - I think not!!! My Nan would giggle when she told us the story of the Tar Baby

Driving, driving, driving!! LOL Left home at 6am, got home at 5.30pm Couple of short breaks while waiting for people, but tis a long way from LP - Val d'Isere - GVA - Val d'Isere - LP!!!
Tomorrow I'm doing similar, but will be a shorter day as the resort is Courchevel, not VDI!!
Good job I love my job - the views are awesome!! And, this afternoon one of the passengers sat up front and talked with me for the whole journey - a bit of a novelty in these times (if they sit in the front they have to wear a mask - we have a perspex screen to separate the driver and front passenger seats from the back passenger seats; not convinced it makes that much difference for a 2.5-3 hours drive, but tis the way it is for now )

Re: What have you done today thread?
Took a lateral flow test. Negative. Have to take another one tomorrow so I can be freed from Covid Isolation! Have a big funeral on Thursday, have to be at Canterbury Cathedral Saturday and then services on Sunday. But I am feeling much better, albeit tired, but that could simply be because of hard work!! Tempted to take the bike to the Cathedral as then I get free parking and can save some the Church some money.

One who forgives an affront fosters friendship, but one who dwells on disputes will alienate a friend.

Re: What have you done today thread?
It's been a very long 7 days! My Step-Mother hasn't been well, completely constipated for 5 days, leg pains etc blah. I've been dealing with her Carers and the futility of trying to organise house calls from the out-of-hours district Nurse, talking to 111 and the CommunityTreatment Team and culminating this evening with dealing with Paramedics.
Tonight the Paramedic I spoke with tells me she thinks Step-Mother is moving into the end of life stage. I thought that was a pretty bold statement to make and asked her to elaborate. She said she could be wrong, but the signs are there with a loss of appetite and thirst, constipation, general lethargy, diminishing communication and various pains and discomfort! Sounds like she maybe right with that list!
The response team will attend asap and run further tests, take bloods etc, then look at pain management. So I guess we're moving into palliative care? Six months ago Step-Mother was shuffling about her place using her walking frame, now she is bedridden. Sadly, as many will know, it's awful to see dementia take someone down like this, and I think for her, well all of us, it'll be a welcome release and for her sake, I hope it isn't drawn out.
This has all been very draining, yet I can't sleep! I'd normally do some online shopping and buy something for my new bike, but the previous owner beat me to it!
