I've had that in the past after doing 3 cars in one weekend, was accused of trying to tip 'industrial quantities' at a domestic tip.
He was offered a choice, either let me drain the bottles into your oil bin or I'll leave all the bottles next to the bin for you to drain out.
I had that, they wanted to keep my big gerry can, I told him to fuck off and I'd just pour it down the drain instead.

One guy in the tip near my old gaff had a side hustle fixing washing machines he got at the tip and flogged on FB.

Sky internet's went down in my area last night.

Not a problem, I was in bed.

Only... My Google Home thingy that I use as a bedside clock/alarm doesn't work at all without internet, no alarm, no nothing.

Could have been very late for work.

If I hadn't woken up at 4am to have a piss and bleary eyed saw the message on screen and set my phone alarm instead.

Google stuff, and Apple to a certain extent, simply doesn't comprehend the possibility of 'no internet', it seems to be a fundamental blind spot in their coding and infrastructure management.

I read an article a while back that seemed to indicate that virtually all Google staff in California had 100% uptime, even at home (paid for partially by Google), and were even picked up by Google owned (or sponsored) busses which had free wifi in them via good quality 4G networks. So - for all the staffers: 100% uptime is the norm, and mentally they are permanently connected and don't think downtime is something to consider.

I'm not so sure it's a blind spot, you're only of use to them while you are connected so they will try to make sure you stay connected.

I totally see your point, but my point is that it's not a deliberate thing, it's an accident of the environment the developers find themselves in. It's a blind-spot in as much as it's not taking into account the facts of the real world because they live their lives in a bubble.

Arguing with a scanner.

I've used it before.

With the same laptop.

But today, when I need to scan a shitton of paperwork, it won't work.

It will print, but not scan.

The scanner application does not recognise this printer

I've now had to download a new 'app' and start fighting again :angry-cussingblack: :angry-cussingblack: :angry-cussingblack: :angry-cussingblack: :angry-cussingblack: :angry-cussingblack: :angry-cussingblack:

HP printers.

Apparently HP are now starting to block their printers using aftermarket cartridges forcing you to go to them. Not terrible for me as I simply subscribe to their ink programme and pay thorough my business however will no doubt piss a few people off......

I would have thought anti-competition but they're rolling out the software OTA to the machines?

Unfortunately, that still leaves a number of other HP printers that don’t allow for the firmware workaround — and HP won’t say which printers that applies to.

To eliminate HP’s block on third-party ink, you’ll need to visit the printer’s Software and Drivers Downloads page. There, you’ll find instructions on how to upgrade the printer firmware. When that’s completed, HP says, you’ll be able to use third-party ink with that printer.

HP did this years ago and lost some court cases, this time round they seem to be branding it as a security issue.
Thankfully my HP printer is an ink tank one and I doubt it's clever enough to spot non-HP ink.

I have only used HP cartridges in it. My laptop can see it to print, but can't see it to scan :angry-cussingblack: :angry-cussingblack: :angry-cussingblack:

I had to find a space here with no shadow and scan with my phone, then sort out the edges, then airdrop to the laptop!

Now had to restart the laptop as it's tired and I couldn't rename any of the files as I needed to

FFS, tech is fab - if it works :angry-cussingblack: :angry-cussingblack:

To be honest my experience of non-HP cartridges have ben very hit and miss (may be a coincidence but I'm fairly sure a nonHP cartridge killed my last printer).

I quite like the on-demand ink programme but, like you, my business pays anyway so ICGAF.

And then! And THEN!! Fcking Pôle Emploi!! Upload a document to assist us to process your unemployment benefit.

Ok, 8 pages I couldn't scan, so I scanned on the phone and sent to laptop.

Changed to one PDF

Nope - too big

Ok, change each document to a PDF, can only send one (need to send them all together)

Spend ages finding something online that I can compress each page to be small (tiny)

Attach everything to the site and send.

Awesome. Now, I know there was something else they needed so I go back into the 'personal space' - Nope, site down

FFS :angry-cussingblack: :angry-cussingblack: :angry-cussingblack:

If I ever won big on the lottery, the first thing I'd do is find someone else to manage all the paperwork. Everything. I hate it and am not good at it!! I can go into an office and sort stuff out, or help a friend sort stuff out. But manage my own stuff?? Nope :angry-cussingblack:

(It's not cos Fr is heavy on paperwork, I was the same in the UK, there was just less to deal with there!!)

I'm going tank for the next printer, they can hardly stop you using someone else's ink - you could put Quink in it if you wanted to. (However, given the cost saving over cartridges I'll probably use HP inks anyway).

They never told us which machine they were raging against, but I suspect it was a printer !
