Yes I went, the trusty old XR600 got another long distance tour, they are fast enough for touring, good on unsurfaced roads and have a comfy seat for a trail bike, but I did cheat and get the ferry to Gothenburg rather than riding through Holland, Germany and Denmark.

The real problem with lardy bikes, especially ones that carry their weight high up, is wheeling them around or manoeuvering them at low speed especially on indifferent, banked or slippery (or all 3) surfaces. They can get away from you in an instant and leave you either wearing it or having to pick it up on your own. And then replacing expensive plastics and other sticky-out bits.

Light bikes rule.

Yup. That was the deciding factor for me. I was past the point of no return on my front garden, fortunately my Son was in his car putting his steering wheel lock on, so he leapt out and saved me!

It's not lardy bikes that are the problem.....it's getting old. .....or possibly :(
The plural of 'anecdote' is not 'data'.
