I've never had a theft claim where a declared security device was involved, so I'm intrigued - if you were to have the bike nicked from your work how would the insurer be able to prove you hadn't used the declared chain?

I'd always assumed you'd only have to produce a receipt for it? If that's not good enough what if the bike just gets lifted into a van chain and all?

I've absolutely no idea tbh.

For the last few years, I've declared my cheap U lock which they've always accepted and I don't recall reading the stipulation in previous policies? However, I always try to build on negatives and I now see it as they've nudged me into using better security, which I probably should do when I've got highly nickable bikes.

Roadlok do an excellent lock, no idea how prices compare or if your insurance co would accept it. Had one on my Multistrada that was parked on the path outside my flat, only ever one attempt to Nick it and they failed!! On the Ducati Forum there was a bloke called Black Billy who did them a bit cheaper.

NHS Scotland. Shower of wank in the lothians have this thing called CTAC. CTAC if for things you book a nurse for like in my case my B12 jab. Today from 10am i was trying to phone the only contact number for it only to be ringing out. Off and on all day until 4:30pm and still no joy. Looks like ill eb looking for a syringe and doing it myself again.

I understand that mate. But if your aim is to get your child to bed early "this evening" because he was so tired last night. Telling him he'll be allowed to play what is undoubtedly a reasonably long game after dinner when it's obvious it won't be possible is pretty shirty imo!

Do you tell your boy that he can do XYZ when there's just no way that could ever work?

I wouldn't recommend it every day but I think most of us can appreciate days when stuff like this goes wrong. I can think of various times in my kids' lives where I've magnanimously, stupidly promised something similar and then been vetoed and obliged to renege for the good of continuing family harmony. The next time he can opt to: break the promise before dinner (tears before dinner, everyone has a shit dinner); go through with the promise, tired kids, cold stare from the missus, no holiday shag; not make the promise in the first place, feel like an unloving heel, may involve time travel.

My work Windows laptop is getting a bit long in the tooth and reporting disk errors, work have said they will 'upgrade' it to a Macbook pro.
I now have a whole new bunch of workarounds and tweaks to learn to get it to do what I want, I know the software choices are limited so it's not off to a good start.

For people used to Windows I've found Macs to be more a sideways step at best, a backwards step is more usual. If you've not used one before and they won't supply a Windows machine then ask for training.

After I posted that I made the fatal mistake of looking up the differences, I think a Chromebook would work better than a Mac.

Have a Chromebook and find it totally irritating. It's not a phone, it's not a pc, it's just annoying.
