There was an example of a FB group recently,where a chap got his calipers back with the piston bores vapour blasted,then masked off before painting.

I bought three items on Amazon a few days ago. One is being shipped via Amazon, one via USPS & the other via FedEx.
One is arriving today (Amazon), one on Friday (FedEx) & the other some time next week (USPS)

They were all ordered at the same time from the same company...

I've had this before (not for brake calipers). It's annoying when you think you've hired a specific person to do something, and then they don't, and then they don't even provide the effing qualified oversight.

I've had this before (not for brake calipers). It's annoying when you think you've hired a specific person to do something, and then they don't, and then they don't even provide the effing qualified oversight.

He's a one-man band, so there aren't any juniors/apprentices/newbs to blame. I just find it slightly unbelievable that anyone with a working brain would powder coat surfaces that either need to seal or mate accurately. When I queried it his response was 'I'm not a mechanic'. Well neither am I, but I know enough to mask off those surfaces.

It's doubly annoying as his work is normally excellent. He's powder coated wheels for me and they were bang on, and he also Cerakoted my LC exhausts and the results were very good. Seems like he has a blind spot with brake components.

More Than Insurance declining our dogs vet bill, it has taken them 2 months to say no so I have just had to fork out £1200 I was not expecting.

I honestly don't know how folk can afford dogs. Next door to us has 4 dogs and 3 cats. The vets bills alone must be horrendous.

We spend about 150€ on our dog and 3 moggies.

Mrs. Gremlin's hearing in her left ear, which has been bad since she had the 'Rona a few months back, being diagnosed as 'Post Covid hearing loss'. Apparently it's caused by the virus in the ENT cavities and has caused scarring on the ear drum leading to permanent hearing loss. Only solution is a hearing aid.

Just as I start the car up to go visit my Mum on Saturday morning, (icy), 'someone'* decides to lower the passenger side window on the car... when it's still iced up.


Queue poxy window motor burning out and leaving the damn glass all the way 'down'.

Local VW garage couldn't book it in until Feb, and weren't even prepared to take the car in and ensure it was parked inside until it could be worked on (ok- I can understand that).

So - booked the car in - but obviously they can't provide a courtesy car until the 20th.... GAH!


Ended up rushing to halfords for a full-size cover for the Eos to keep it dry until Feb, and hiring "something" for the weekend to visit Mum (came away with bonus stuff for the JAPton, so that was good), but still pissed off about the window....

I just splurged a load of WD40 in the hinge of the driver's side mirror as that stays put on cold days...expecting to burn the motor out on that if I forget to give it a good shove when it's supposed to be opening.

It's a known weakness on the Eos - because the window motors are engaged every time you lock or unlock the car*, they tend to wear out more quickly. Each window is lowered automatically when you unlock the car, in the expectation that you'll be opening the door in the next 10 seconds....

* There's no door frame over the window, but the window is sealed at the top against a rubber strip in the roofline. When the door is opened the window is retracted about a centimeter to clear the rubber seal - this happens automatically, and so the motors are engaged for every door opening as well! (so the driver's side tends to die first, but both motors don't last as long as a normal car's).

Sounds a bit like when you put the folding metal roof down on cars, the first thing they do is drop the windows an inch...but not every time you unlock the car!

The mirrors thing ticks me off. On one car they fold out when you lock/unlock the doors. Fine for when you lock the car but the other one unfolds them when you start the engine. Makes more sense to me, why cane the battery when you might only be opening the car to get something out. I frequently go, 'Oh my whatever is in the car' and go and unlock the car, get what I need and lock it again. No need to waggle the mirrors at all.

Also, I can flip a switch and they stay closed in all situations on my car. Why can't I flip it so they stay open at all times? Harrumph!

The Eos is the VW 'folding metal roof car'.

And yes -it drops the windows completely before the roof opens.
