Short version, they're making ferries with 45,000kWh batteries (about 500 Tesla cars) and 75,000bhp motors to serve a route between Jutland and Zealand.

My Uncle Jørn actually sails those same waters in his steam powered antique, maybe he can get me a close up view.

Exciting stuff.

I know that it takes more kw to charge than is actually available, but if I had been charging overnight on Octopus' 7p a kwh those 892 miles would have cost me around £18.20!

I averaged 50mpg in my Derv Ovlov, at average August prices of 142ppl, that's £115.

I meant you've had it eEco mode or whatever its called haven't you? I can run mine in "chill" mode which limits the power and makes for gentle take offs etc. i think there's some volts to be saved in these eco modes?

Yeah, eco limits it to 460bhp.

I can only seem to get 3.5 miles/kwh on the way to work, but easily get 4+ on the way home.

I actually run it in Eco Professional Individual.

It's a custom drive mode that uses all the eco settings for everything but the suspension which I keep in Sports Plus.

Not very far at all off price parity with the ICE equivalents too now. Arguably cheaper in some regards when you consider the performance on offer. £58k for a 450bhp German SUV, the nearest petrol equivalent is more than £60k and less powerful as far as I can work out.

While we’re waiting for our home charger to be installed, we’ve had to charge our Explorer on public chargers , so have been using the Tesla super chargers near us.
To be fair to Tesla they’ve built 24 superchargers in 2 locations about half a mile from each other. One set of 12 is Tesla only, the other 12 is for any EV.
So easy having downloaded the Tesla app, added a card and they’re obviously super quick but also 30-40p per kw cheaper than the other public chargers near us.
Wife didn’t want a Tesla as she doesn’t like them, but say what you want about Musk and Tesla, their charging infrastructure is brilliant.

I read a few Tesla forums and FB pages etc and thats the general opnion. Tesla revolutionised the EV market not just with its cars, but the infrastructure to support the product too. Everyone else is playing catch up and getting there as well, but Tesla showed people that EVs are a viable form of transport when done right.

More electric vehicles change city air in ways that are easy to miss. A new analysis comparing London, Milan, and Barcelona reports that battery electric cars cut brake dust by about 83 percent thanks to regenerative braking, while eliminating tailpipe emissions altogether.

A major OECD report details how braking patterns, vehicle weight, and road surfaces push these particles into the air and onto streets.

The London case stands out because frequent junctions and lights magnify braking, and that is where regenerative systems shine.

Electric vehicle drivetrains recover speed as electricity, so the friction brakes work less, slashing the dust that otherwise becomes airborne near crosswalks and bus stops.

Brake dust tends to produce more airborne fine particles at the curb, which is what people inhale.

By contrast, only a small fraction of tire wear becomes airborne PM10, with one comprehensive review estimating about one percent. Most tire fragments settle on roadsides or wash into drains.

That difference matters for exposure during rush hour. Fewer friction brake events in electric cars therefore mean fewer of the particles most likely to get into lungs, even though heavier curb weights still nudge tire wear upward.

“Clean air is fundamental to health,” wrote the AQI guideline authors for the World Health Organization in 2021.

Particulate matter is not one thing but a mix of sizes and chemistries, and the smallest particles, PM2.5, are most closely tied to asthma attacks, heart strain, and early death.

Brake dust also carries metals like copper and iron, while tires add rubbery microplastics and sulfur-bearing compounds. Scientists are mapping how these ingredients behave once they settle into soil and water, and how much re-enters the air as traffic stirs the surface.

After various reconnects etc, the charger app was insisting it was offline.
The internets said it needed cycling - turn it off at the consumer unit.

Guess what? It was turned off at the consumer unit already presumably the thunderstorm yesterday tripped it
At least it was a simple fix in the end
