I think you've just explained where my dad's shoe brushes came from, I'll ask him later. He was in the army in the 50's as well.

I'd guess mine must be WWII...I think I liberated them from home but tbh it's so long ago I don't remember. I certainly didn't buy them, they've just sort of always been there.

At some point one brush got 'polish on' and one 'polish off' written on the back as it was ultra-taboo to apply polish directly to the softer brush.

Dad used to tell me that they used to use the back of a warm spoon to somehow get the parade ground gloss but I never saw him do it. With all the polishing and 'blanco-ing' I'm surprised they had time for fighting. (He was in the Middle East. Got a pic of him and a relative he bumped into in Egypt somewhere. They're kind of leaning together, pissed as newts (in uniform). If one moved I think they'd both fall over.

He was a dab hand at stitching/darning socks too.

Any chance he can sort these out?

Edit: Oooh. My trotters are looking a bit dry. Time for a pedicure soon I reckon.

My mate's dad didn't know how many sugars he had in his tea as he hadn't made one since he got married.

I don't think I've cooked more than a handful of meals in over 20 years - it's just something I don't do. I had a bit of a dabble with HelloFresh when my missus was recuperating from an illness but that lasted less than a week because she got fecked off with my bumbling. I am however completely dreamy when it comes to washing up and general kitcheny tidying. You can't win 'em all.

And I quite like polishing shoes, but I don't really care for wearing them iyswim.

We do need a little more detail though. So, the battery in your cable detector was flat but you carried on drilling into this wall above a socket and.....?

I feel like I want to make the same mistake.
I'm fitting a kitchen and have a long rail the high cupboards hang from, this is great as I can fix it either side of any power cables in the wall but still put cupboards where I want them.
Except I can't, the top 6" of the wall looks appears to be live, along the entire length. I live in a bungalow so why the hell would anyone channel cable along there when they can just go in the loft. Unless it's live for a different reason, oh joy.

Since you ask..... The battery in the stud finder is fine. It just never got used.
We were lulled into a false sense of security by the presence of several other obvious holes in the wall in same area.....



Silver lining on the affair is that the electrician who came out to fix the break we made, found out that one of the aforementioned holes also went through the cable feeding the back box...... But had just been filled in with polyfilla!!

So, all in all, actually ended up quite happy that we'd found and fixed a potential issue.

KeNako Biltong! I saw this on a program with Tom Kerridge, the Michelin starred chef, where their biltong won the event. So i thought they must know their stuff, and promnptly ordered some of their wares, namely, original, garlic and chilli biltong. God, what a mistake. Its like marinated beef that is just overcooked and nothing like dehydrated jerky. A few chews and you're back to raw, jelly like meat. I've night various types of jerky/biltong etco over the years and this is the worse I've ever bought. Even my dog spat it out! You have been warned,...

I found out my live wall reading was false so I started drilling, all good until I tried the wall plugs and found the SDS 7mm bit makes a slightly bigger hole than a normal 7mm bit and it all ends up spinning in the hole.
Did some reading and saw people recommending a smaller bit, I went to 6mm and it's a bit small even when I jiggle the it around in the hole. I've used the plugs many times before, the difference is the DeWalt bit.
Trying some PVA glue now to see if it lets the screws do up.

Oversize hole with your normal plug in it, then split another plug down the centre and knock in to the hole. Screw should bite then.

Pack it out (the rawl plug) with anything to hand (offcuts of zipties, or solid copper wire, or cocktail sticks) or just blow the crap out and whack a bit of that noMoreNails stuff in the hole. My house is mainly sandstone, mud and dust - every hole i drill is an adventure.
