I understood it to mean that police would have been aware of the limitations of the equipment that was being used, i.e.:
- open water search capabilities
- not suitable for reeds, etc.
With the implication that, if the police were aware and understood, then a separate search of the reeds should have been carried out.

But he said if she was in the river he would find her. Nothing about as long a she was in open water, the gear not suitable for reeds (which I assume he knew were there) and that he'd need police assistance for the areas his machines didn't cover.

I get it's not an easy job that I could never grasp the complications of, but to keep saying he would have found her if she was in the river is blatantly wrong. She was in the river and he didn't find her.

The pilot believed his colleague was pretending to be asleep and only realised what had happened after landing, a safety report revealed.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch investigated the incident, in Blackpool, so lessons could be learned.

It concluded current medical assessments were acceptable but risks "can never be reduced to zero".

The report found the pilot who died was flying with a qualified pilot who was able to land the aircraft safely but said "the outcome could have been different" on a different flight.

The 57-year-old, who had passed a medical four months earlier, had agreed to join the the short journey aboard a Piper PA-28-161 light aircraft around Blackpool Airport in June.

The UK economy will shrink and perform worse than other advanced economies, including Russia, as the cost of living continues to hit households, the International Monetary Fund has said.

The IMF said the economy will contract by 0.6% in 2023, rather than grow slightly as previously predicted.

However, the IMF also said that it thinks the UK is now "on the right track".

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt said the UK outperformed many forecasts last year.

But shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves said the figures showed the UK "lagging behind our peers".

The IMF, which works to stabilise economic growth, said it had downgraded its forecast for the UK because of its high energy prices, rising mortgage costs and increased taxes, as well as persistent worker shortages. The UK is expected be the only country to shrink next year across all the advanced and emerging economies. Even sanctions-hit Russia is now forecast to grow this year."

So, Kate Forbes, current bean-counter and aspiring leader of the SNP answers a question openly and honestly, in that, as a member of the Wee Free church in Scotland, she would not have voted for same-sex marriage. Suddenly her backers all seem to have found somewhere else more pressing they need to be....

I find this dispiriting. She hasn't made noises about rolling back the legislation, indeed she says she would 'defend it to the hilt' as a democrat. And yet she's already seeing her challenge withering and dying. What did her colleagues think her views would be on this issue? She hardly kept her religion a secret. Perhaps she should have simply kept her mouth shut or offered some weasel platitudes. Or just missed the vote altogether, as one of her rivals did back in 2014.

And people wonder why politicians rarely give a straight or honest answer....
