Tesla are rather full of themselves this week as one of their cars drove itself out of the factory, across town to the buyers house & parked itself in his driveway.

DNOs will have all sorts of problems, quite legitimately because this is a tricky thing to implement, but the advantages are so great it will win through IMO.
Lots of companies can or do make V2G cars now, the main hurdles are the combination of technology and legislation, rather than the pure tech itself.
I'm not surprised BYD are the first to go big. Hope everyone else doesn't get left behind, like they're already starting to.

They tell me Tesla recommend ABC = always be charging, so I tend to top mine up even if it doesn’t need it. The sentry mode guzzles my volts so I turned that off and it seems to hardly use any whilst parked now? Stats so far…

Well, I had the best day of Nissan Leaf ownership a few weeks ago.
It was hit while parked on the road - hit in the rear and shifted forward into the next car.
didn't look too serious, not structural, but the electrics went into meltdown, and wasn't driveable.
Old fella hit it, and it went through his insurance, who wrote the Leaf off.
Waved goodbye to it as it sailed away on a low loader, never to be seen again.

Didn't Tesla recommend charging to 80% instead of 100. That's what they used to do at work.

Yes, on the older ones like mine its 80% unless you're going on a long trip and need the extra. Apparantly on that battery type its best for battery optimisation. The later ones have a different battery type and they are always charged to 100%.
FWIW, 80% shows me a range of 229 miles, but that is very much a best case scenario and is weather and journey type dependant..

We're currently a lot better at producing clean energy than storing it to use later. That poses a challenge in regions that have long stretches with low wind and sunlight, stressing power grids fed by renewable sources. Augwind Energy believes it might have a found a solution thousands of feet below the ground.
The company has developed a long-duration energy storage (LDES) system called AirBattery that relies on compressed air held in underground salt caverns – hundreds of which are found in South Germany. AirBattery is said to reliably store energy for weeks while requiring a lot less land, water, and capital than more common pumped hydro storage systems.

...Or you could convert it to liquified hydrogen and oxygen at source. Both valuable commodities with existing proven methods of distribution and storage.

Likely to be far less efficient than just compressing air though, especially for short term storage. Not to mention more expensive.

No idea, but planning and building a car factory, complete with recruiting and training the workforce, and ensuring supply chain and distribution, etc. etc., isn't something that could have been instigated and completed quickly. ie In response to recent tariff imposition.

Could just be good old fashioned economic growth. Brazil has a growing middle class and there are millions of people, and (relatively) soon to be millions more who can buy their first ever car.
Those people won't have any preconceptions about what car ownership entails, because they've never done it before.
Seems pretty smart to me to be setting up on their doorstep.
