I've got around £20Ks worth of bikes in the garage, it just seems to have built up over the last few yeats.

-Me on my first MT10 in 2016 ( which FWIW I paid the then list price of £9995 + an extra £220 for the then optional QS)- not a fast boy, but in the fast group.Yorick wrote: ↑Mon Feb 26, 2024 8:20 pmBut the MT10 is not a sportsbike.mangocrazy wrote: ↑Mon Feb 26, 2024 7:56 pmWe clearly move in different circles. V4S Panigales are playthings for rich kids who need to have the 'fastest and the best'. If you can afford it, why not? But they're out of reach of all but the most well-heeled. I coudn't countenance spending £20k on a bike; I'd have trouble justifying to myself on spending half that amount on a bike.
And the point is that you can compare the MT10 and an R1. Under the skin they share an awful lot of components, despite looking very different.
A sportsbike without a fairing is like a car with no windscreen.
I doubt if you'll see many MT10s and suchlike in the hands of fast boys at a trackday.
And RE the fairing bit, I think you need to ride a few other bikes , you might learn something - I did multiple tours (Highlands, France, Italy, Germany and Austria) on both my MT10s, had them both flat out and could comfortably cruise at 110-120 with just the relatively small screen you can see (or of course not see in the case of @Yorick ) in this pic

Yes, probably the same here, but that value isn't just concentrated in one bike, is it?Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Mon Feb 26, 2024 9:29 pm I've got around £20Ks worth of bikes in the garage, it just seems to have built up over the last few yeats.

It cannot give what a sports bike gives. Until you've ridden a litre sportsbike properly, you won't understand.mangocrazy wrote: ↑Mon Feb 26, 2024 8:51 pmI'm not saying the MT10 is a sportsbike; I'm saying it's giving 90% of what an R1 gives in terms of performance and fun for not much more than 50% of the price. Sportsbikes are pricing themselves out of the market and unfortunately dragging prices of everything else up as well.Yorick wrote: ↑Mon Feb 26, 2024 8:20 pmBut the MT10 is not a sportsbike.mangocrazy wrote: ↑Mon Feb 26, 2024 7:56 pm

Re: No more R1
@Yorick "cooking" bikes is pretty derogatory for a start, but also a very subjective thing.
You can have a brand new cb300r for £4.5k. Let's call that a cooking bike, being about the first (next) thing over a 125.
I know very well that you don't want one but, even though I understand the difference in materials and technology, you'd have a hard time convincing me a new R1 is worth 4 cb300r's and still with £7k change to buy an earlier big bang R1.

I don't care what they're worth. I buy what I want. I worked hard for my money and now can have whatever I want.A_morti wrote: ↑Mon Feb 26, 2024 11:10 pm @Yorick "cooking" bikes is pretty derogatory for a start, but also a very subjective thing.

Stop being so fucking condescending. What suits you, suits you but may not suit others. Stop trying to be the forum arbiter of taste.Yorick wrote: ↑Mon Feb 26, 2024 10:47 pmIt cannot give what a sports bike gives. Re: No more R1
I can afford whatever bike I want now (never could when I was younger), but when looking to buy a new bike, I kept to my requirements, not my wants. Hence ending up with an NC750X.
However, if I were to find a decent KTM RC8R out here, I would definately buy it. But seeing they are as rare as hens teeth, i doubt I will find one. Even the local KTM dealer has never had one in his workshop, or an RC8.

Here's the video. It does sound quite a lot louder than standard as I have chopped a lot out of the Yoshi pipeYorick wrote: ↑Thu Feb 22, 2024 11:54 amMy GSXR1000 with standard pipe is much quieter than my ring-a-ding-ding GasGas 300The Spin Doctor wrote: ↑Thu Feb 22, 2024 11:51 am It's a bit of a puzzler because Euro5+ isn't any tougher in terms of emissions, which is what killed off many of the previous generation of machines - in fact as I understand it, it keeps the current emission limits which I assume has been where all the hard work has been put it.
If I had to guess, it would be the fact that the update brings in a requirement for longer-term effectiveness of the catalytic converter. It seems the Euro5 allowed for a simple mathematical estimate of the durability of the cat, but Euro 5+ seems to require an actual test to see if it remains efficient long term.
The other possibility may be that they don't think the bike will meet new reduced noise limits.
