My missus is/was pretty keen on going pillion...she'd be sat on the bike while I was still pulling my gloves on. (Contrarily I hate sitting at the back). I don't mind riding solo if it's pottering about or if I want to 'push the performance envelope', but if it's going off on adventures à la forrin it's nice to have the extra traction in the mud Most of the bike miles since my yoof have been 2-up. I wouldn't mind the sort of group tours you've been on - it sounds like you can make your own way if you want to or ride with a group.Cousin Jack wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2023 7:31 pmDo like I do, go on an 'organised' tour, with a group of like minded people to chat to at dinner and in the bar. That's the bit I miss most during my current hiatus, never mind the weather....let's head off and go somewhere. I did the commuting thing where you look at the weather and think 'Probably should go in the car. Ah it, it'll not be raining on the way home, get suited up' for a while but it's the....'woohoo! heading for Eurotunnel and whatever lies beyond' that I miss. But, it's my co-pilot that is the issue and it's not as much fun on my own.

You can, and most of the tours I have been on have had couples on them, they aren't 'blokey'. We have even had ladies on their own.

It's nice to have someone who can tell you how lovely the countryside views that you rode through were.Count Steer wrote: ↑Tue Oct 10, 2023 10:56 amMy missus is/was pretty keen on going pillion...she'd be sat on the bike while I was still pulling my gloves on. Oh...and also to tap me on the shoulder to remind me that they drive on the right in this bit of the world.
I think she'd be game to do pillion on a track day! (The first days on some Flash Tours were a bit like one though. Hmmm.....ponder....double knee down? )

The pillion did you see...
(Normally mentioned just as said object vanishes from view)
Did you see that massive stag stood in that field?
Did you see that Marrmott?
Did you see that Black Squirrel?

Never got on with going pillion and I certainly never got on with taking pillions. So much so that the first thing I do to a bike is take off pillion pegs and throw them away

Many years ago, my pal got a sponsored Harley race bike.
Was road legal so we often went out with me pillion trying to both get our knees down. Photos somewhere of us trailing our gloves on floor on a roundabout. He was top rider so felt safe (ish)

Re: When do you know it's "Time"?
I must be the only one who has an MTB gathering dust over the past year and instead is going through more tyres and fuel on the 2 bikes than i have in a few years. 2 knee ops have taken a toll and the knee is starting to ache a bit now after cycling but we'll see how it goes
As well as doing the bike instructing part time i also have a part time office job that requires a 50 mile return journey each day. In the shitty weather the bike gets me there a damn sight quicker than stuck in traffic in a car. In the nice weather i often take a longer way home on some twistier roads just because i can.
After avoiding trackdays for years i now want to do more and will probably book a snetterton day soon as its my local track instead of just the annual trip to darkest wales to meet up with this lot at Pembrey.
Mid 50's and i still love riding bikes as much as before. I really cant see me hanging up the helmet until i am told i cant medically but you never know what the future will bring

Not ridden a bicycle in over 12 months now owing to not being able to sit on a saddle (diagnosed with Bowel Cancer, been through a few operations since), but have put maybe 7-8k miles on various motorbikes during the same time as and when my posterior has allowed...

Re: When do you know it's "Time"?
Never found a pillion to be a problem as long as they sit there like a sack of spuds, don't try to 'help' etc. If they don't jiggle around, what's the problem?
At the risk of bigging myself up, there was a 'survey' on an earlier board about 'who would you go pillion with?' And, *heart swells wiv pride* some said....
