Fella I know was prosecuted off the back of someone else's cam footage.
In a group ride he popped a wheelie coming off a roundabout, someone else in the group then swerved across his path and he clattered in to them. They came off and he ended up with a years ban.....

Very true but highlighting the downside of bike cams for some, and the 5-0 will use as evidence.

It’s not needed but it would speed things up. Opinion, even if it seems obvious, will not speed up a 3rd party insurer to part with cash. I’ve been waiting two months for my money at this point and while I’ll get it soon the insurance liability case will still continue. In my case you’d imagine this would be cut and dry, right?

Nope. Whereas if I had a film that showed the moron driving in to me it would be sorted by now.

The car driver might be claiming that you braked suddenly, for no reason (like the 'crash for cash' set ups). No excuse, but even forward facing video would confirm your actions.

Filly (in car) was punted by another driver. He tried claiming it was her fault for stopping (uphill bend to right, parked car on left, she decided not to drive towards an oncoming van). Her ins co almost had to take it to court before the other side paid up.

Exactly. Many people lie and don’t like admitting fault.

It WILL happen. Back in the early 80s I hit a car that had been indicating left from the left hand lane on a roundabout. The driver suddenly decided she didn't want to turn left after all, just as I was using the second lane out to turn left too - all marked up for left-turns. After the woman told me (and the witness I nabbed) that it was all her fault as she got confused, I still got a solicitor's letter telling me that I'd been speeding and the collision was entirely my fault.

It's the only time I seriously bent a bike but it was eventually settled 50/50. Webcam footage would have been useful.

Lesson - NEVER sit alongside cars turning left if you're on the outside.

I see that happen soooo often on roundabouts. There's one near me which takes two lanes from an A road left onto a motorway. The inside lane is left only. Time and time again folk use the inside lane to carry on around the roundabout,while vehicles in the outside lane are already accelerating hard for the motorway. There have been loads of big smashes at that one spot.

I think that’s probably where I am. I’d be more concerned about other people’s dash cams alongside a jobsworth attitude.

I’m not one for doing solid whites or similar, but even so it has made me more circumspect when I’m out.

Not something I'd really considered before what with being a bit of a luddite an all it really is a case of "bloody technology" hopefully any silly business* I get up to ends up on YouTube rather than with the fuzz.

* I ride a BMW Panzy & a 16yo Guzzi so unlikely anyway

In 2019 I got done for driving (riding) without due care and attention between junction 8 and 7 of the M11. I was not stopped by police, and there were no traffic cameras on that section.

As I took the option of a course instead of a court appearance, I was never given any details/photos/video of the incident. I can only assume I was grassed up by a driver with a dash cam. Probably for riding along the empty inside lane and undertaking cars in the two outside lanes.

Here in Spain, you can only legally submit dash cam footage to the police or an insurance company, no posting it up on YouTube.

Well that didn't last long, after about 12 hours on the bike it's stopped reading SD cards and doesn't write to them either, it's on its way back to Amazon and I'm getting a refund, I think vibration killed it and if I got another one the same thing would happen to that.

Are you sure that the vibes killed it? I fitted similar looking dashcams to both my Street Triple & SV650 last year.It's a few months since I checked,but both were recording correctly & I'd be surprised if a SV 650 or Street Triple vibrates less than your bike

No, not sure at all, but I ride on a lot of bumpy roads, and I thought this might have killed it.

Amazon have refunded my money already.

I was gonna say maybe mount it somewhere else, but relooking at the photos it already looks quite "loose". S'not like you've epoxied it to the crank case...

It's cos Cheesy rides so fast the camera burnt out trying to keep up, innit.

I have a similar problem, only they get bored

I don't know, I felt aware of being recorded while riding and rode like less of a twat, I'm not sure I want to be less twattish.

I used the mounting it came with, not sure if under the seat was the best place for it.
