So Mr tricky, if I was to say I wanted a comfy ss600 with a bit of midrange should I revisit the RS ? What’s the traction like do you run with it off or is it quite good ? Is it the best handling naked bike you’ve had ? Has the abs got a track setting ? Thanks

Am not sure that it's the best handling ( or at least feel, I haven't quite got the perfect feel from the front end I would like ) naked I've ever had, but it's completely stable, changes direction brilliantly, and overall really pretty good now.
The electronics are less sophisticated/adjustable than those on the KTM 790/890, which at first bugged me a bit, but TBH, now it doesn't really.
ABS is the only slight fly in the ointment as although it has a "rider" mode where you can choose the levels of almost everything, and completely disable TC and anti wheelie (like the earlier KTMs, the only way to completely disable anti-wheelie is to turn TC off), you can't turn ABs off.
I had it cutting in now and again at the Melbourne loop which made me run wide once or twice but overall it is pretty good IMO, at my pace anyway.
So if I would if I were you, and you want a comfy and well developed SS600 then absolutely yes, worth another go I would think- the 2020 on 765 definitely has more mid-range than the earlier ones did

But the 890R is better then yeah ? which is basically what all of the above seems to imply

Hard to say as I didn't have the 890 long enough and never rode it on track, so possibly I would say-dunno- would love to ride them back-to-back on a track now
(so
@Couchy - basically you need to forget testing a 765RS at the moment and just buy an 890R instead- then bring it to the RTTL Pembrey do in August ( or possibly Cadwell on 12th or 13th Aug) so I can ride them both back-to back and then buy it off you afterwards again

)
And sort of related, I bought PSB mag yesterday, the first time I've bought a bike mag for years, it's a Yam special one and full of stuff on LCs, TZs, FZ750s etc which made me do it, but in the PB bit they have a comparison test between the 2021 MT09SP and 890R, which was quite interesting too

What did they conclude on the MT09SP/890R discussion ?

(Tim Thompson) Really seemed to rate the MT, and better than the 890 in some ways - this was the overall verdict though

Maybe , one day
In the meantime, here's one for you (not that the XSR is ever going anywhere of course, but just in case...

Maybe.
Bet you would still be tempted if it were feasible though...

I'd absolutely love a 1290... but i'm still not convinced it'd be right for me.... but i'd love the chance to spend a day on one on my local roads, the roads i know well etc. I've ridden one for an hour or so, but it was a novelty so i didn't really think about it in the right way at the time i guess. I was more concentrating on just walloping it open and scaring myself rather than how it was as an actual bike to own.

Must admit, I'm half tempted by that one, did have a thought of buy it, ride it a bit and then decide whether it or the 765 goes.
I was only half tempted though in all honesty- it's a bigger heavier thing than I really want- if only KTM made a bike about 40kg lighter than the 1290R, and the size of a 765 with decent quality suspension and 120ish HP eh

If i had more money, the garage would be in a world of trouble, i'd have bikes turning up every 3rd week.
But that one looks like an exceptionally tidy example and the cheapest on Ebay.
