I rode my step dads one a fair bit, I really liked it. Handled fine but got bouncy when pushing on but didn’t detract from the fun. Eng8ne was lovely loads of midrange and it wheelied great.

It seems, from all the articles I've read, is that the main reason for choosing it over the opposition is purely for the kudos of owning a z9 and reliving the youth you missed out on.
As for power, handling, equipment etc ( you know, the things that actually matter), then it usually comes in 2nd or 3rd best.
So if you're the kind of bloke with a big green K on the back of your leathers, or a garage full of 80s kwaks, then it is the perfect accompaniment.
However dont try and say you'll be buying it because it's a superior bike to its rivals.
And fyi, the line of the tank/seat looks very artificial to me.

Some of us just ride a bike as we enjoy riding bikes and don't need it to be a class leader. If I had bought the Z9 it would have been pretty much for the reasons you say Demannu, a trip down memory lane, albeit on a slightly updated version.

Professional road testers are full of shit.

If you never read a mag or watched a youtube video, you'd either buy the one you liked the look of the most or the one that test rode the best.

It's not easy getting test rides at most places, so buy the prettiest.

I think having a Z1 in the 70s has kept me safe from the rose tints. I can admire from a distance,but that's about it.

Mined ewe,that ethos hasn't stopped me lusting after old Kawasaki two smoke triples,which were an even bigger dose of shit.

I've got a 1982 Kawasaki 1170 in the garage, it's poo to ride compared with a modern bike, but it sure is pretty, I've ridden Kawasaki triples, they're really horrible to ride, worse than RD400s, but I'd still own one, it's like a disease, you know old bikes are shit, but you still buy them because you either had one or wanted one in your youth, you keep buying them until you run out of room, a mate has 13 bikes, they're stored in various garages across Oxfordshire, his wife doesn't know how many bikes he has, or about one of his two 1980s Porsches, accumulating crappy old vehicles is the curse of the well paid middle aged man

LOL, fortunately I've run out of room for anymore old crap, but, if I built a workshop in the garden rather than using the back of the garage for this I could fit another two or three bikes in the garage.

From what I've read the Z900RS isn't even the best Z900. It's the best looking but sounds like the standard Z900 is lighter, more powerful and rides better. The RS is the looker though. When I was considering it I was gonna go modern standard z900.

Several friends have them. One guy sold his first one to buy the 50th Anniversary edition.... Then he decided to sell that. Was asking $15K. Then last month at the RockStore he fell over while stopped & dinged several parts, now he's asking $8K. There's no way he did $7K in damage: basically muffler, brake levers (both of them), one turn signal & a mirror.
