Just checked...mine's actually a 'National League - Thumper', not a Slugger at all. It still has the price label stuck on the clear plastic sleeve which is in line with the age of it....£11.50.

Surely you just need a cricket bat and the defense of "I'm English, of course I own a cricket bat".

Well I'm all for going 'Wolf of Kabul' on intruders but he had his batman Chung to wield his clicky-ba. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolf_of_Kabul

I reserve the Thumper for heathens that don't know cricket.

My local purveyor of herbal remedies keeps a golf club in his car and by his door.

Like any of the local coppers are going to believe he's ever been anywhere near a golf course, not that any would let him in. :D

Not with just the one club, anyway.

A couple of months ago I heard an intruder in the house and grabbed the only weapon that was to hand - not a very good one, as too light, a length of vacuum cleaner tubing. I went out onto the landing and was creeping about in the dark as a light came on and a voice said, "Hello Dad".
Son No.1, who lived elsewhere, had turned up unannounced and used his key to get in.

Anyway, back on topic. Gissa go, Mister. :D

It was -1 when I left home and fog everywhere too. The heated seat and grips came into their own for sure. That said, I had to turn the seat down as it gets too hot but the grips are nowhere near as good as ones I've had on other bikes, memorably BMWs? On their max setting, I could feel them through my thickly padded Held gloves but only just. Maybe to take advantage of the heat I should use a thinner glove? I'll try that out tomorrow.

The wide mirrors really do hamper filtering. I have to fold them forward and then it's a pretty good bike for filtering. I'll order one of those odd 180 degree mirrors to see if it'll give me some rearview vision worth having. If it works okay, I'll probably remove the mirrors and fit blanking plates, rathe rthan keep leaning forward and shoving them out of the way.

The first tank of juice gave me 57mpg which is pretty good. Economy isn't really a requirement, but its nice to have.

The cruise control is excellent and the leccy screen is good and the 7" TFT screen is superb and very easy to read and customisable. The OEM equipment on this bike is really good!

The bike still feels a bit vibey on initial take up? Maybe i'll get used to it or it'll bed in and improve? Not an issue at this stage though, just noticeable.

Early days but so far its winning me over more and more each ride! 8-)

We're only passing through right! Hmm...

Hi Taipan,
Hope you are well and thank you for your enquiry.
The Mivv Oval Black Full System is £525 including vat.
For Euro 5 models, If you are using the exhaust system on UK roads, then you won’t need the optional catalyst insert. If you did decide to go to European countries where they will require you to install the catalyst, this is an optional extra of £189 including vat.

Mivv seem decent quality. I had one on the SH when the original system rotted to dust.

Potter wrote: Fri Feb 10, 2023 4:56 am Looks cracking, any actual pics?

As has been said, in your neck of the woods I'd be pappering me kecks about it being pinched and commuting into London would have me even more worried.
No, I've not taken any pics and it's filthy now. I'm waiting to get it detailed and ACF50'd, so maybe after that.

It will be a magnet for thieves I'm sure. I've bought an Almax chain for home and as its too heavy to carry about, I've now bought a pragmasis chain to keep at work as well. I also have a ABUS Sledg disc lock and on this latest model Tmax, the centrestand electronically locks down as well as a steering lock. It also has a Monimoto tracker fitted. There isn't really much more prevention I can do.

As Yin said, the big scoots are targeted as they are better at pushing away the nicked bigger bikes. When my bike was nicked, the Cop i spoke to said, bike thieves can come into London and almost get any make and model of bike they want. Apart from the real exotica, you do see the latest sports and adventure bikes parked up and when I went to the pound there were plenty of nakeds in there too. A scooter gang came into our gated, private car park which has CCTVdeverywhere, and tried to nick a guys older GSXF. God knows why, as its far from a spotless example, just his daily hack!?!?!

Auto theft (car, bike, agricultural plant) is actually a massive problem in this country and it is being resourced for dedicated Police units, but of course, not by enough. Meanwhile, we're all funding the losses with our increased premiums, which, incidentally, will be spread to lower crime areas too!

Well not much else you can do except give in and don't have what you want which would be sad. Hope it's fine though.

Bit of an update. Bike is working out well for me. Certainly the most comfortable i've been on a bike since my op anyway. I'd like more leg room in the feet forward position, but its not the end of the world. ISTR I took the adjustable butt rest thing off of one of my earlier Tmaxes? Maybe try that if i can be bothered?

I can't believe how much I use cruise control. Being an auto its just works so well. Sit at 70mph with CC enabled. Stop at a junction and pull away and hit resume and it just takes you directly back up to it and you can accelerate or slow down using the + and - buttons. I do notice a throttle lag when you wind on the throttle on CC though? I guess its something to do with the fly-by-wire throttle?

Feedback from other Tmax users is the Garmin app can be a pita. If you use hard wire via the usb connection its better than over WiFi, but then your phone can get bounced a bit in the glove box holder. I sort of want to see it working and try it out, but just don't really have a need for sat nav on the bike. Shame it doesn't have carplay lol. Not sure what the audio link is, or how it works yet and again, not sure i'll bother trying to listen to podcasts or answering calls whilst riding.

Back to its primary function as a commuter and its just really good. The few times I could use a shorter wheel base for filtering are far outweighed by the power difference and comfort. It's plenty lively enough for the task too. The brakes and handling are very good and I imagine on summer nights I will get a bit of a sporty ride on the back lanes when going home. The road testing Journos are right, its a cracking bit of kit.
