Biking Plans for 2023

Try and get more miles under my belt.

Ride more. Be less scared in the corners and learn more. Couple of trackdays. And if I can get over my goal of dry miles only, maybe a bit of touring. I'd love to go back home and ride in southern Ireland and/or Scotland.

And maybe ride with some people rather than solo all the time.

Ride more than just the commute this year, get the Triumph running right.

Get rid of the mountains of shit I've taken off the Triumph that's cluttering up the garage.

Put the fresh tyres on the Guzzi and do the remap that's waiting for the throttle bodies to be balanced before doing.

Well I added another 1k miles to my insurance, so now have a goal to try and hit that. Did 2800 miles last year so got 1200 extra miles to plan.

So I'm combining the two - 3 days at portimao in May with no limits but instead of the usual stillage transport there and back I'll be riding, taking in Spain, France, Italy, Germany, everywhere. Got friends and family to catch up with all over and there's countless places I want to see.
Worked all through lockdowns so I'm owed big time , therefore may 12th to June 2nd. Let's see how comfy the 1198s is with that eh?

Get plenty of miles in on the V85TT. I have a couple of trips abroad in the diary: Brittany in May and the Alps in July.
I'll probably do more group rides and fewer solo rides this year. For the first time in years I've not entered the Round Britain Rally. I've been a bit jaded with looking for village pumps, wells and air force memorials for a while now, but have never yet been able to kick the habit. I also usually do the Welsh National Rally but this year it looks as if it's going to clash with a family birthday do.

That usually happens in the ldu and build up to it....I always seen to do big miles the daft way

Big Birthday for me this year so it's 12 days in the USA - Milwalkee, Nashville and Vegas. Not riding over there as it's too expensive - £230 odd a day. Lincoln with RAF Vets in May, Ireland June and France / Jersey in September. Plus the normal 8 weekends @ Pembrey and I'd like to fit in - with decent weather a night away in the Cotswolds or Mid / North Wales. Might be some work @ the ABR weekend which looks interesting.

Looks like I'm going to have to spend a bit more time @ Dads in Oxford this year - he's 86 so it'll be an excuse to have a spin on the BMW.

Not one for plans, me, preferring just to see how I'm feeling when I wake up .....that said, @Tricky and I were discussing things earlier and he has loadsa bikey stuff planned,

.....But then he's always been a spreadsheet sort of guy. Add Isabella into the mix and the pair of them make @weeksy look like he does nothing at weekends .

Will do some trackdays this year, probably Bedford or Lydden, maybe Doni and will likely do the Pembrey weekend in September, although undecided as to whether it would be Saturday and Sunday or just the Saturday. Shame there is no Friday option this year.

As to the rest, who knows? I haven't ridden the Trike since before Xmas 2022 and have only done 50 miles or so on the 890r in 2023... bit of a waste really .

And we won't speak of the poor old Mille which is still languishing in the back of the garage, SORN'd and unloved.....

Need to get me arse into gear, on all fronts

As it will run out of MoT and tax in June/July, the VFR will need bringing back to Blighty to get those sorted and the Falco will probably replace it for its first French tour of duty for a while. It's a golden rule that there has to be a bike at the gaff to use if and when we pop over for a short break. The question is whether I do the switch by ferrying them back and forth in the van, or ride them there and back.

The picture is complicated by the fact that I intend to tow my 1980 Lancia Beta back behind the van (the engine is FUBARed) on the way back. I'm a bit nervous that the weight of a bike in the van, plus the towed weight of a car might be a bit too much for a 20 year old van. I suspect I'll take the Falco down in the van, and then fly back early summer and ride the VFR back. That way it's less stress on the van. Mind you - it should be used to that kind of treatment, it's an ex-AA VW T4 Transporter.
