Tyre weight also matters downhill, Newton and all that stuff.

In what way? A big apple falls in air at the same speed as a small one (ignoring friction), big apple has more momentum but acceleration due to gravity and terminal velocity will be the same (again ignoring all friction effects). What have I forgotten from school physics? :D

Please bear with me, there is more than madness about my post, OK?

There is maths for centrifugal and gyroscopic force which might help to explain why so many riders are 'mulletting' their bikes.

Considering centrifugal force, all things being equal, I'd guess that a smaller wheel generates less centrifugal force making it easier to change direction. Guess because although mass is lower velocity will be higher because of smaller rolling circumference.

A smaller wheel primarily consists of smaller and therefore lighter rim and tyre.

If you substitute numbers for the smaller diameter 27.5" rim and tyre vs 29" rim and tyre into the standard centrifugal force equation you will see this effect.

For example, here: https://www.omnicalculator.com/physics/ ... ugal-force
F = mv²/r
where:

F is the force (expressed in newtons);
m is the mass of the object;
v is the velocity; and
r is the radius.

Cleaned lubed and sorted after the weekend.

Need to fit the other rear wheel and tyre for the coming weekend at MIJ but that won't be too tricky.

Also need to decide if i tubless the tan-walls. I've not actually checked yet if the wheels are compatible, but i'd assume so... i didn't actually know they were tubed until i removed one of the DHRs yesterday to fit the Shorty.

We've been having a few issues with his rear wheel. It's a loose bearing Shimano Saint hub and when it was on the bike recently i noticed a wobble in the cassette. The other day i noticed a LOT of wobble on it... it was all over the place and barely stayed in gear. It's recently been tweaked as well as possible by the LBS and we can't have that happening, so a Hope Pro 150 DH with Fortus rim has been bought and will be installed today :)

We were also discussing last night whether there's any point in taking the Status to DH races and the answer seems to be 'not really' .. Unless it was something like 417 he tells me he'd really arguably not ride it at a proper DH venue, so it'll likely be left at home a lot of the time now, which helps with logistics, hotels, storage on race days etc...

He's a bit tired this week so won't be doing much until the weekend, but i may get him out tomorrow jumping in Goring :)

Had a few issues with the top chainguide on the lads bike. E-Thirteen decided on this model to use one that secures with a clip, but it seems they've now gone back to a bolt through.

Image2022-07-13_06-41-36 by Steve Weeks, on Flickr

I'm guessing we were not the only ones who had the clip come loose and the top guide not be correct... It was slightly confusing ordering the part as i wasn't 100% on whether we had a Gen1/2/3 but i got slightly lucky and it works perfectly.

Happy new bike day to me.

He ha. I know, technically I already owned it.

Due to some of our plans meaning I want to do more tech stuff with the lad, I decided to buy this off him. Not that I'm giving him the money as such as it was my money in the first place, but I'll transfer it into his racing account.

I've ordered a 550*3.00 spring for the back and a Firm front for the Boxxers. If I can get them fitted in time I may even race it next weekend at FoD.

It now has Hope Pro4 wheels and SRAM Codes fitted.

WEll the rear has been re-sprung to my weight now, sag seems good, but i can't really fully test other settings due to the very soft spring in the front. TFT are getting that out today, so should be with me tomorrow.

Race entry is in for Sunday.... Assuming i survive Saturday that is...

Ridiculously i've have to order a pair of riding trousers, as my boy tells me "You can't race DH in shorts, that's riidculous, get a pair of trousers ordered" Hahahahahaa.

Bah, i've just made the bugger compeltely silent for the first time in months.. it had a pedally creaky recently and i couldn't work out why.

Somewhere in between me swapping the spring and me fitting a new DU bushing in the rear mount on the shock, it's completely silent again.

I've now set up the levers, shifters etc... but until i get the front spring in there it's hard to get it 100% right... They'll be arriving tomorrow and i'll be either shooting to Rotec Cycles or fitting myself if i have the right grease.

TEsting this morning i think the 500 spring is too soft, so i've gone for a 550 in there for testing tomorrow. But should be pretty close.

Other than that i had to move the gear shifter to the inside of the brake mount, that's about it though.

Sunday is on Elephant Man. Yay. I know it and can get down it, which is good.

I actually rode it with joebristol once, the drop is a bit droppy lol, but it's ok.

Death may not actually happen 🤣😂
