Since I got the Mazda which is my first S/S car I pretty much turn it off all the time. Main reason is it usually turned the car off for less than 5-10 secs max before I'm moving again which other than putting more strain on the battery doesn't appear to do much. Maybe if I sat in loads of stationary traffic or at lots of sets lights but I don't luckily. So I find I drive 15 miles, stop at a roundabout and engine cuts then 2 secs later I'm pulling away. Or even in start stop traffic unless is really slow if you are say for more than 10 secs someone will be in the space in front cos you haven't moved. So yeah I turn it off mainly.

I can stop, without the S/S kicking in by not putting full pressure on the brake pedal. If I use just enough force to stop the car rolling (it's an auto) the S/S doesn't kick in. If I fully push the pedal it does.

The wives Volvo cuts out before you've come stop a complete stop sometimes!

Yeah my V40 did that. You can also roll down hill in it a bit before it comes on, I think you can get up to 3mph before the engine reignites.
