I had the K1, K3, K5, K7 & K9.
Each one got a bit better than the previous model.
The L3 was strange. Better at everything than all the previous jobs, but didn't seem to be working as hard. Just did everything so well.

But I'd swap a brand new L3 for my current L8.

Many moons ago, think that managed to reach the point where the speedo wouldn’t go any higher……186kph iirc.

Was giggling to myself at this bit! I took the piss with that bike, had a run in with the police on three separate occasions……..got off lightly.

Anyway back on topic with the K9. I’ve been busy of late but over the next few days I’ll measure the run out on the discs just to confirm that they are gubbed.

Then I’ll take it from there.

Suzuki have moved way on past this model. Why are you so obsessed by it?

The K9? Hardly obsessed by it, I explained why I ended up with it and enjoy it. But of late I have been thinking about another bike but I won’t be getting another, don’t like the newer ones, they look shit.

If you’re talking about the post above that bike was awesome, regardless of its age, so much fun.

Finally got round to checking the run out on the front brake discs, they’re a mile out. Manual states a tolerance of 0.03mm and the dial was going mental.

New discs and pads it is then.

Finally gave the Muc Off pressure washer a try out, I’ll probably do a review but it does the job.

Plot thickens………..getting fucked off with this bike now.

Tested the run out on the front brake discs this morning along with the axial run out of the front rim because there was an advisory for that at the start of the year, so just wanted to confirm whether it had got any worse or was in fact no longer within tolerance.

I was so convinced because of the symptoms that they would be warped, but they were not. Within spec.

The tolerance for the front discs is 0.3mm

I tested both front discs inner edge and outer edge with calipers fitted and then again with the calipers removed but the results were pretty much the same, a difference of 0.01mm at the most.

Left hand disc has a run out of 0.17mm and right hand disc was 0.23mm

Front axial run out was 0.96mm and 0.64mm, well within the 2mm tolerance.

Back to the drawing board.

On our old ZX6R it was showing as in spec on the runout, i even had them trued by Maidstone Motoliners.... Still vibrations.

I borrowed a spare wheel off someone at Pembrey, instant smoothness.

I then bought a set of Brembo Serie Oro.... perfect.

I wish I had tested the axial run out way back then I’d know if it’s got worse to the point of causing this vibration whilst braking or whether it’s the same as it’s always been.

The disc is mounted to the hub and the hub is well within spec, the tolerance for that is 0.25mm and it barely moves, and the discs are within spec. Question is, is it possibly the 0.23mm is enough to show up? I’m thinking about throwing on replacement discs anyway and new pads. Bike will be getting sold shortly so probably do that anyway.

I wonder if it'd be cheaper to buy a used wheel ?

I was thinking that, had a brief look last night and there is a few, bit more expensive than they were 3 or so months ago.

There was a few fronts a while back with discs but I never pulled the trigger on them, wish I had.

I'd expect with most GSXRs that a multitude of wheels are likely to fit it, possibly even 600/750s, gsxs's, etc.

Bit of a grey area. The early ones all fit and are interchangeable with each other but the K9 was slightly different. I have it written down somewhere because when I was on the look out for a set of spare wheels I had to find out as much as I could.

Ring and speak to Gav, either about questions or whether he has a wheel lying round. He's raced GSXRs for 20+ years now.

Something I decided to deal with which wasn’t the end of the world was the neutral switch/gear position sensor. It’s never worked on the bike so I have to sit on the bike and get the side stand up before it will allow me to start it. Not the end of the world but sometimes when I’m about to leave work I’d like to start the bike and have it idle for a few minutes as I’m putting on my gear.

So I removed the switch, cleaned it and put it back on, no difference at all. New switch or second hand switch it is, so was having a look then thought “wife’s bike”……..checked the part numbers and sure enough it’s the exact same part. So whipped it off and stuck it on my bike. As usual she was pissed but fuck it, she’s not going to be using the bike anytime soon.

Nice neutral light allowing me to start the bike without having to fart about.

So that’s the RCS19 I’ve stole from her bike, stole the neutral switch, stole a little circlip for the gear shift lever as well, she hates me!

Giving the forks a winter service, removed and stripped down on Saturday after doing the car.

Cleaned on Sunday ready to be built up. Maybe wait until Saturday to rebuild them.

That’s them rebuilt ready to go back on. I think the wife needs the car on Thursday so I’ll put them back on the bike tomorrow or Tuesday after work.
