There's a magazine just for Adventure Bike riders!

Does it have fascinating articles on how to tackle speed bumps and other tarmac obstacles, cos the fools are never going to ride them on a loose surface.

Have you ridden a Modern ADV bike? I'd have one before a traditional sports tourer. I replaced my Honda VFR800 with Triumph Tiger 800 and its a much more capable bike unless you want to Cruise at 110mph. Comfort is better, weather protection is better, the riding position is more comfortable and gives you a better view of the world. The longer travel suspension gives a much more plush ride on our shitty roads. They're better for pillions usually too.
If I was buying a new bike it would deffo be an ADV - either a Triumph 900 Tiger, a V2 Multistrada, a Tracer GT or an Africa Twin (though that Morini looks good!).

Oh, I can tell you that - it's All Souls Avenue down to Kensal Green. Less 'dodge the pothole', more 'spot any patch of original road surface'.

I think something like an big BMW GS you need to be very confident with for them to be useable off road, but having had Simon Pavey come past me doing over 100mph on a fire road through Dalby Forest on a BMW GS I appreciate they're capable in the right hands.

I'm no great shakes off road but competent enough to get from A to B with no bothers in half-decent conditions and given a tool like my brother's old Huski 610TE... now that was a weapon...

The V-Strom 1000 I had in New Zealand in 2018 handled hard-pack fine and even loose gravel roads, but it was totally inappropriate for a muddy unmetalled road.

I had to ride it about 2km from where our friends lived to the tarmac road. A typhoon had come over two days earlier and dumped lots of rain. The logging trucks up the hill had churned up deep ruts. The 'grader' sent down the road that morning had simply scraped off the top of the ridges and turned it to mud soup which had filled the deeper ruts and covered the harder bikes. It was impossible to see where the ruts were, and the tyres had zero grip. I lost count of the number of times I got the front in one rut and the rear in another.

It took me about 30 minutes to ride the bike those 2km and I lost count of the times I nearly dropped the effing thing. I had some off-road tyres on one of the old CB250RS's and it was a doddle in muddy conditions.

My problem wasn't buying something, it was finding something I wanted to buy, and it still is, whilst the GSX is great to ride, I find it's looks a bit challenging.

What's the point of buying a bike to sit with all my other bikes that do less than 50 miles a year, if they even move at all.
So I could buy ten if I wanted, but I'd hardly ever use it, just like my other five bikes.

I rarely ride my GSXR and never ride the Beta. But not selling them.

My 350LC didn't turn a wheel for three years, I'm not selling that either, but I don't see much point in adding more bikes I won't use.

So what, you want one, buy one, if you're going to justify buying a bike you're going to be stuck with something very dull.

Not really, I think CC is in the same place with the Fireblade and you can't really argue he's shy when it comes to buying bikes, but there comes a point where the novelty of buying anything you want on a whim wears off and you need to come up with (half) sensible reasons to buy something.

I'm in 2 minds whether to buy the Ducati Scrambler thingy. But I'd hardly ride it.

Everyone's life is their own, they should live it how they want to so long as they don't hurt anyone else, if you want a garage full of bikes that you hardly ride who does it hurt and what does it matter, and the same goes for if you don't, I've got one bike I haven't ridden for 4 years and another that I've only ridden for the length of my drive (about 5 metres), I bought them because I wanted to own them, I've no massive desire to ride either of them, they're big expensive ornaments, but so what, it really doesn't matter to anyone apart from me, and I'm happy with them, if I want to sit on them and make brum, brum noises I could, it still wouldn't matter to anyone but me.

I have no issue with any of that, but you still aren't persuading me to buy another bike because you recently bought a mid-ranged bike on a whim and now you're all evangelical about "You only live once"

I've always been "You only live once", I've got a garage full of worthless old shite to prove it, it's only recently that I've seen the sense I've buying a bike that actually works when you buy it.

I suspect I won't keep the GSX for very long, something else shiny will come along, I'll keep my old bikes because I'm attached to them.

I wasn't taken with the 790 Adv, but I really like the Norden. But I suspect if I was serious about it I'd still be put off by all the 790/890 issues. I think if I was PCP'ing for 2 years and hand it back I'd happily have one but not sure about having one outside warranty.

Is it!! I'm out too! I guess the success of ADV bikes in any guise is pushing the price up. My X-ADV is ££farsands more than the NX750X?
