Re: Good 125's
I’ve been on the lookout for an RG125 for about a year or so, I had one when I was 17/18 and went all over the country on it, including a couple of holidays. I’d love one just to play about on.
Current favourites for the boy are RD or DT, they’re expensive but parts are easy to get, I know my way around them, I’d also ride it and I’d get my money back or most of it anyway.

Re: Good 125's
I wouldn't trust the frame on an RG, Suzuki alloy frames of that age get fatigue, the later beam framed bike is better.
You could look for an AR125 but I haven't seen one for 30 years.

Re: Good 125's
KFB's top Mito Facts!
1. They've got 7 gears.
2. Alberto Tomba used to have one (well it said he did in the adverts anyway).

Re: Good 125's
It does - I saw @Screwdriver 's half-finished one yonks ago, although I think they're far nicer as original 125s.
-Screwd- is it finished yet, and how's the RG/MV coming on?

Re: Good 125's
Someone was selling a Mito frame already modified to take a YPVS engine not long ago, they didn't want big money for it, trouble is people are asking £2000 for YPVS engines, I paid £2200 for my whole bike a year ago.Tricky wrote: ↑Mon Aug 02, 2021 11:11 amIt does - I saw @Screwdriver 's half-finished one yonks ago, although I think they're far nicer as original 125s.

Re: Good 125's
I've got a 350 YPVS engine sitting on my bench, I bought it for £850 but it was a few years ago now. It's got a new top end and I put new power valves in from Fowlers but that wasn't a cheap exercise, the valves, bushes and seals cost me about £400.
No idea what I'm going to do with it, I was going to put it in my LC but I don't think I'll bother now.
It's part of my retirement stash for sale or use when I pack in work.
I don't think I could be arsed to put it in a Mito, it's a young mans bike and I don't think I'd get on with the riding position now.

Re: Good 125's
I'd have said £850 is about right for an unknown running YPVS engine, I think the £2K people are trying it on in a big way, but they seem confident of selling at that price.
I certainly can't be arsed with a Mito, I'm too big to fit on one, if I had a spare engine I'd buy a YPVS frame, get it braced around the steering head and build a YPVS with good suspension and modern sized wheels and brakes, I might end up doing this with my YPVS, but I want to build it as an 80s bike first, if I don't like the handling, it get's new wheels etc, if I don't like the engine the whole thing gets sold, I haven't ridden one for 30 years so I may not like one now.

Re: Good 125's
It wasn't really unknown, I bought it off Mutts nuts and he did say he hadn't checked every inch of it but it was one of his stash motors that he'd had for ages and it was a good 'un, so I was happy with that. No plans to sell it for a good few years yet, until I decide if I'm ever going to use it.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Mon Aug 02, 2021 3:44 pm I'd have said £850 is about right for an unknown running YPVS engine, I think the £2K people are trying it on in a big way, but they seem confident of selling at that price.

Re: Good 125's
Hang on to it, it's only going to go up in value, though there must get a point where all the silly old fools who want LCs have them.

Re: Good 125's
The Mito isn't too small, and its a decent stretch to the bars. Its no CG125
My one has had a full engine rebuild, new bearings throughout, powder coated wheels, new tyres, Arrow end can, de-restricted (so 33ish bhp), and full respray in Ducati yellow.
Might sell it, as it is in the UK and I'm not. I think just owning it is good enough, as I've been told they will go up in value (but that's not why I still own it)

Re: Good 125's
Yeah I think the Mito is as good as money in the bank, even if prices stop going up they're unlikely to go down so it will probably never be worth less than it is now. A mate of a mate had one about 15yrs ago and I had a quick go, it felt really fast for a 125.
I think leaving them standard is the way to go, over the years I've known a few people (and seen plenty on forums) who build these type of hybrids with 350 engines and big bore kits that are doing 75-100bhp and they spend fortunes on them, but inevitably when they're finished they end up selling them because they are too focussed and sooner or later you get bored of razzing the tits off it. It's like I was saying about cars, if you make one feature (usually power) stand out above the rest of the package then it becomes a one-trick pony and quickly gets boring.
Tbh my lad doesn't seem like much of a speed demon, he seems to enjoy pottering about rather than hooning it, so I'm not sure he'd really gel with a race rep, all I wanted to do at 17 was go as fast as possible but he seems to just enjoy cruising around.
