I talked about fake AGVs on my FB page some time ago - the giveway was the lack of weight and a bendy chin piece.

Interestingly, the £200 fake Dainese leathers only JUST performed worse than the £800 originals when put on the sanding belt!

My test for gloves is to get hold of the forefinger and middle finger and try to pull them apart. If they tear, they do back on the shelf. Several pairs - including a couple of expensive 'brand names' have failed that test!

Many years ago whilst chatting to Alec Baumber while being measured up for a new set of Crowtree leathers, he was talking about repairs on crash damage, and said Dianese fell suffered badly in a crash.
That's not to say they won't protect you, just that they might only do it once or twice.

No coincidence that Dainese resisted CE approval for as long as they possibly could, then lobbied hard to reduce the standards.

I've tested 2 Dainese suits a few times at quick speeds. Never wore through. Tough leather on the obvious bits.

I've seen two replica suits (Scott Russell and Max Biaggi) that fared badly in low speed crashes, I've seen Daineses that other riders fell off in at track speeds.

I guess you have to know what you are looking for, but the MotoCAP project from DownUnder is independently destruction testing and rating system that's worth looking at to see how the most recent kit performs. Some of their jackets don't perform well.

If I walked away from a high speed off and the kit was annihilated I'd feel it had done its job, low speed I'd feel a bit ripped off.

It wasn't so long back that leather manufacturers in Pakistan, supplying European brands, would stretch hides to make sure an order was completed. Unsuspecting punter in the UK would be buying stretched leather believing it to be unstretched (unless you're in that industry it would be hard to tell) from a shop selling it in good faith and equally none the wiser.
