This was the tale end of Wiggins' career in a British club TT. The guy was doing 24mph himself so a fair shift

Brambilla on Bennett before he was relegated in the 'sprint' (for 3rd...)

"I have nothing to say. Ask George Bennett how to do the race. That's it. Sometimes is better even watching some racing on TV, so you can learn how to do it"

Well this is the biggy today, the mighty Zoncolan. Although arguably it may not be the blast fest of riders we'd often see as the KMs before it are more tame that we'd generally see.

But... if you're going for the GC and want a chance at it... well, this is the day to do so, this is the make or break.

Tried posting this this morning but the browser on my phone had a fit.....

I'm waiting to be proven wrong again but...

I can't see huge attacks on Bernal here. If you look at the GC many of the riders in the top ten are going to get the finish of their career. I know most of us mortals wouldn't be about to tell you who was P8 in the 2021 Giro but within the bubble the teams will know.

Compare that with attacking and slipping down the rankings in a blaze of glory.

At most people may tickle Bernal in case he has a poker face on and is actually suffering, but I can't see anyone going all out and risking ending nowhere on GC if they blow up.

Of course, I said that and now Astana are driving.

I'll go for my fallback argument that they think Vlasov can take the stage, but aren't necessarily expecting a huge time gap

Well I just caught up and happily didn't get to see any results before hand.

Awesome performance by the minnows of Fortunato to win the day, he killed himself for that!

Bernal did what I expected and controlled things nicely. He's good enough at TT to cruise that now I think.

I think that explains why Ineos slowed the peloton to a crawl yesterday - Yates vs Bernal again ?

Well if someone like Vlasov or Carthy want a chance at winning, then you'd guess they've got to give it a pop today and try for it. There's talk that due to the weather the race will only go to the top of the Giau then not count in terms of timing for the decent due to safety. So we'll have to see how that goes during the course of the day.

They've got to test Bernal for sure, that little attack where he put time into everyone on Saturday looked a bit showboaty to me. The other teams need to get him isolated early on to have a chance.

Vlasov will be praying for that descent not to count then won't he - he's like Bambi on rollerskates since his crash last year

Isolating Bernal sounds great as a theory, but the reality of doing it, especially currently is close to impossible with the teams the other squads have at this one.

Crikey just had a look at the tv - that doesn't look like it's going to be a nice day and sounds like stage is shortened. Nobody looking bothered in having a go yet

For the record, I loved that coverage today. I wouldn't want that experience all the time, but the mystique of just getting updates from the motos and no pictures until we saw the riders coming in at the end almost made me feel like I was waiting at the finish line myself.

Commentators did well too, very Test Match Special

Lol I didn't watch much. But Bernal clearly did the business again.
Hugh Carthy for a podium would be awesome

There was a stage of the Giro a few years back that was even worse for updates, nothing from the motos, thick fog and it was only in the last 200m riders would emerge from the fog and the commentators would pick them out. As a few of them said, it must have been what it was like in the Coppi days. Magic.
