For most people a cheap multimeter is more than good enough, most people use them for continuity testing and seeing if they've got 12volts, unless you're repairing electronics a cheap one will more than do the job
I was thinking that a good Fluke (or similar) is something that you wouldn't necessarily buy yourself, but which you'd appreciate every time you picked it up.

One of my favourite tools is a no 3 Thor copper-hide mallet, A cheap plastic mallet would do the same job, but the Thor a joy to use, and it was a gift from someone special. :)
Thor mallets are nice, which sounds weird for something you use to hit things.
A good socket set is a thing of pleasure as well

Aircraft industry spec bashers!

I've had a number 3 and a number 1 for the last 40 odd years. The 3 is looking a bit blattered now,but still functional. Good tools last a lifetime.

Pretty sure thats the one which is made by Whilliams and branded as Snap On.
Same mechanism as the stubby I have and yes its lovely.
There's shorter versions than this one.

Williams version is about half the price.
I never even realised how fussy I could be on a screwdriver that lives on my carpenters pouch til I lost the little hard handle stubby Snap On one.
I bought a few others made by various manufacturers then realised I'd spent as much on ones I didn't like as I could get the one I liked for.

Sometimes the more expensive ones are actually nicer.

This is one of my favourite possessions. Its comprehensive but comes in a flat style case which means its been on driving holidays with me as it takes up no room under the suitcases. For basic maintenance it covers most things. Cracking bit of kit!

A hydraulic bike bench. Far better than a sky lift for proper bike working.

My missus bought me one for Xmas a few years ago and it's been brilliant. A man of your advancing years will soon get the use 😆

Tbh I don't do enough on motorbikes. Along with not having enough space.

We went for the Facom T handles anyway. Can't wait!
