There was a bit where Malik's crew managed to kill the whole of Spectre "just like that" - so why couldn't all of the world's spy community have done the same?
And then it moved onto nanobots - rather than a world plague . Maybe the script writers were worried because of Covid.

James squeeze and Craig had no chemistry what so ever - so a mono dimensional key relationship

It was a bit rubbish. Maybe when it comes on TV , I will be able to understand the subtleties as bit better.

We all have our opinions, but I did say the villain wasn't much cop and I agree he was a bit too mumbling, and the French woman a bit whispery (and it turned out was whispering in French some of the time).

As for the killing of Spectre, that was the whole point

M developed it to target individual threats around the world whilst knowing it could be programmed to kill a whole raft of people if it fell into the wrong hands

And nanobots have become the latest go-to magic dust to explain away whatever the writer wants.

It's not a perfect film, I agree, but I thought it was far better than I was expecting it to be.

Not new, but started watching War Machine.

I don't get it -
- is it a documentary?
- is it a comedy?
- is it something, no disrespect intended, that "only services will get" ?

Or is it just a bit shit?

I quite like Brad Pitt, but his portrayal of "war hero characters" stems from the very cool (Fury) to the comical (Inglourious Basterds). This was at the IG end of the scale. Not that that's a bad thing, but it seemed to be a comic character without any laughs. And this is no Tarantino

Anyone given it more than half an hour? Worth pursuing?

So far I'm a 1 out of 10 as I turned it off.

Back to No Time to Die, I was wary of what it was going to be like given some of the reviews but I thoroughly enjoyed it. it didn't feel like 2hrs 40 mins, it had all the essential ingredients and I thought our Villain was just enough different to the usual super villain. After seeing the BB5 then the DBS, I thought we might have got a nod to all the previous cars.
UK Brands did well though, with plenty of Landrover and Triumph action.
I don;t know what Mrs GP paid to download it on Sky, but 4 of us watched it together and everyone gave it a thumbs up.

I was surprised Tom Hardy got involved with it (the original Venom) - I don't really like ComicBook/Superhero fillums that much but I've seen a few in passing. And this isn't the best by a long shot.

What I really didn't like was that the Venom alien character was so comic-book-like. Maybe it was just to satisfy the hardcore fans.

Just watched Ad Astra. Beautifully filmed, great sound and music. Plot holes galore and quite slow and contemplative but enjoyed it anyway. Oid give it 7.7/10.

In the credits they included a 'snake wrangler' but there weren't any snakes...I wonder if they planned to do snakes on the biological research ship but went for a mad baboons instead!
Thought the military escort across the moon was a bit u/s knowing there were moon bandits around and didn't understand why they needed to take him to Mars to send a message in person, they could have recorded it. The space stuff was pretty good though, nicely gritty and not all nice and clean and future tech.
What was the stuff in the cylinder that got shot? Pretty effective and not really what you want stuck on the cabin wall.

Only 5 years behind the curve, Suicide Squad. Quite a jolly romp. Will Smith plays Will Smith like no-one else can, good Joker (Jared Leto), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) spot on. Common is in it...for about 30 seconds.

All in all, a bit of a giraffe. 7.842/10

I enjoyed it. There might be - to expert eyes - plotholes* etc, but it's a good story.

* 'timing' as in 'how long it takes' is one, where the film's production actually is against the timeline, is one. But I only realised after watching it, not during!

However ... a big 'However' ... I spent a lot of time watching for the cuts**

** if you have no idea what I mean, perhaps you won't

NB re 'gritty realism' ... yes, there's there's some unpleasant stuff but it's probably nowhere near how grim the trenches actually were.

On the subjects of movies, Netflix has a bit of an old but worthwhile couple of series of The Movies That Made Us. Basically documentaries about iconic movies; Aliens, Forrest Gump, Halloween, etc. Lots of talking heads from the crew and cast. It can get a bit annoying with the voice over and humourous editing, but worth a watch if you're into your cinema.
