That's my (previous) helmet, also bought cheap as an "old" model. I've retired it now because it's past it's use-by date, whatever the relevance of that is, but it's still in great condition (apparently....)Druid wrote: Sat Jan 16, 2021 12:10 am I'm not interested in bike racing and have tended to go for plain black helmets. The only race rep helmet I've owned was one of these
except mine was an Astro not an RX7. I had just had a pay out after a bike accident and it included a new helmet. The one above was on offer because it was the previous year's colour scheme but there was about £100 off iirc.

Re: Helmets : Classic styles and Reps.
I’ve often wondered about getting a helmet respray but figured it would have to be done by a specialist so as to not affect the integrity of the lid and would probably cost as much as a new lid.Bigyin wrote: Fri Jan 15, 2021 11:38 pm ...i actually had a plain blue Shoei painted up by a local air brusher...
That’s the one with the hare on the back?Druid wrote: Sat Jan 16, 2021 12:10 am I'm not interested in bike racing and have tended to go for plain black helmets. The only race rep helmet I've owned was one of these
Always liked the Walker rep on the Arai Quantum F, nice bright colours without being day-glo.

Mine is now almost 18 years old but I haven't used it for more than 10 years. It's had a few knocks and some fairly heavy use, smells a bit tooWossname wrote: Sun Jan 17, 2021 12:21 pm

I didn't know it had a hare on it. It's been retired to the top of a bookcase so I've just checked it

Re: Helmets : Classic styles and Reps.
The person who did mine stripped off the outer lacquer, did the airbrushing of the Saltire flag pattern then did another layer of lacquer over it. Unfortunately they didnt do a very good job of the lacquer and after a few months it peeled off in flakes till there was almost none left hence the helmet looking very dull with no shine.Beancounter wrote: Sun Jan 17, 2021 5:59 pm

If i was going to get one done properly i would just buy a white one and then as you said give it to a pro. There used to be a local guy who did all the race helmets a mate used so would probably look him up

I wonder whether the 'acid worms' suits could make a stye come-back?weeksy wrote: Sat Jan 16, 2021 11:21 am But they reach a point when they become classic. Like a Walker, Doohan, Dunlop and even Haga. The point where it doesn't matter which year it was, it's more about it being iconic
Even bland can be a type of character

Funny you should both mention that ..... mate of mine, Bob Collins, has just had a new set of leathers made to go with his new track 2020 FirebladeKungFooBob wrote: Sun Jan 17, 2021 9:14 pm
