Got the Shockwiz back from Couchie, i don't think he was particularly impressed with it in honesty, but for me it's a super piece of kit.

So it's gone straight onto the Ohlins on the rear of the boys bike and we'll see how he gets on with it playing in the woods.

Pretty close, so i'll do 1 click on the low speed compression and that should be it done. We can then move onto the front end.

Bit of a faff today. We've been having dropper post issues since day 1. Noticed today it was working less than usual. So pulled cable out and the ferrule and cable are basically trashed.
This wouldn't be an issue if Specialized didn't use are bloody rubbish grub screw and barrel to secure it.


The little one seizes in the barrel so you can't get a new inner cable fitted.

So I've ordered 2 of them and will fit a new inner cable, set to the correct tension as per manual and see how we get on. It may need a new outer too as that's a bit crap, but I'm hoping I can trim it a bit and not have to worry about internal routing.

Was much easier when he had the Vyron.

Cabling sorted and it's good to go now. Hope it all works well, it's hard to get things right when you're sticking a 40kg or something kid on bouncy/pressurized things. But should only need small adjustments if at all.

Hopefully he'll stop moaning at me now

My boy came back from jumping and him and his mate exclaimed "this doesn't feel right" and "makes a funny noise"

It transpires he had play in his shock / pivot bearings.

The SWorks bearings are 100 times easier to get in and out than the Whyte. So swapped 6 of them in no time at all.

Will check the rest tomorrow, but there's certainly no play on the top 6 mount points now.

What is it that makes the Whyte bearings so difficult? Genuine question as I’ve never needed to do mine.

The Specialized was both a shallower recess and not quite as tight a fit. It's almost on the Whyte as though there's an inner lip you have to get past, so when trying to press it in it's really easy to get it started, then it tilts fractionally and next thing you're getting it back out. The Sworks, just slid straight in, all of them. I reckon the 6 bearings too less than 45 mins. Which is pretty good as you spend the first 20 of that getting the right press and removal pieces

It's not a hard job on any bike as such, but it's fiddly and can be frustrating at times.

Well in what is becoming a bit of a nightmare week with shocks on bikes, the Ohlins has had to be booked into https://j-techsuspension.co.uk/

When he's going out he's leaving with 100psi, by the time he's home he's got 50 in there.. So obviously it's losing a big chunk of pressure. I've fitted the Shockwiz to monitor if it's in the garage overnight or on the trail, but it's being collected on the 15th March and booked in for the afternoon of the 17th. So we should have it back by the 19th.

The big question is, my Monarch should have been warrantied by then and can i fit the 216*63 into his bike that usually takes a 215*57... I dunno,... I guess we'll find out.

The stx22 fitted on his seems like most don't touch. That place says £call. So I've dropped them a message

I'm going from memory here so could be wrong, I seem to remember that Katy was sponsored by ohlins and Jake was amongst the first to work on them, so I'd guess if anyone can sort out out, her can.

Booked in with them for Thurs. Should have it back with luck on Fri... unless it's bolloxed as apparently Ohlins no longer fully support the shock with bits... So as long as the bits it needs are the bits that can be supplied... hopefully we'll be OK.

Well this could get expensive !!!!

Specialized have a completely propriatary shock fittment that NOTHING else fits...



This then fits into a special Yoke (basically a bracket)

So you either need a specialized fittment shock, or a new yoke (below)



So if it cannot be serviced and we need a new shock, i've either got to get a standard 210*55 shock and one of the above, shock £360 and yoke £110 or a Specialized specific shock, which seems closer to £700.

So i'm VERY much hoping that his can be serviced when it's in on Thursday.
