The Amlodipine made me feel a shitty during the time I was taking them. If this cough keeps up I'm binning off the Ramipril as well.

Reminds me of when I was doing my homework on treatments and side effects. On one drug trial the placebo group reported more 'side effects' than the drug group.

Can't remember which drug though.

I’m on Lisinopril, Bisoprolol (and aspirin), have been for a few years since my stent 4 years ago. BP was stubbornly around 140/80, so they decided to add amlodipine, 5mg as a start dose, but warned me about side effects. I suggested trying 2.5, and within a week it was 120/80 or less, so we’ve stayed at that, with no SEs.

I start on the Rampril tomorrow after mentioning the side effects of the Amlodipine..
I'd rather they agreed to stopping the meds for a while as it's not that high (Usually around 132/82).
I'm back in for a review on the 16th,I'll see what happens then.

You booked in a blood test any time soon? I was told to book one (and NHS website agrees) to check kidney function to make sure there's no adverse effects. Confused the hell out of my G.P.'s receptionist yesterday as I tried to explain, but we got there after I did half their job for them for 15 minutes.

They did the blood tests thing on me when they put me on amlodipine but there was no mention of follow up.

When I saw the Doc she said I had to come back for a morning appointment with the phlebotomist because the blood had to be fresh for some part of the tests and they take it early then whistle it off to the lab. The list of tests didn't include cholesterol, to my surprise, so I asked the phlebotomist to add it to the list. She said 'good idea' and did but it didn't get done.

Currently monitoring BP having split the dose 2.5mg and 2.5mg. I was taking the first dose first thing in the morning but that's when I'm already pretty low BP (like 101/77) so have delayed that one with a view to trying to go 2.5mg per day.

PS Gremmers, it should normalise vv quickly after exercise. When I got my first measurement years ago I checked it after getting home from playing squash and it was

Can you blag one of those BP loggers that monitor for 24h? The daily pattern/cycle might be useful especially if you can do workday, weekend stuff. To my interested but amateur eye that ^^^^ might be stress related. (Having seen 180 systolic but knowing exactly why it was an abnormal reading).

The loggers are like having a little chum that squeezes your arm every now and again. You kind of miss them when you have to give them back.

Higher dose of Ramipril? Or a different drug? Or (more) changes to your lifestyle?

I only mention it because (anecdotally, natch') a relative's doctor was all - this is " high, but not high enough to really concern ... " - and the patient quite soon after suffered a (fortunately limited longterm impact) stroke.

You sound a mirror image of me. Systolic too high, diastolic ok. Low pulse rate (resting at 52), reasonably fit, not a fatty, and eats pretty well but has stubbon high BP. As of about 3 months ago I'm on 5mg of Amilodipine. Results seem mixed, sometimes I can do it and it's 125/60, just done it now and it's 151/68 - 58. It doesn't help that as soon as the monitor goes near me I can almost feel my BP rising.
