TBF the V8 Turbo Porsche saloons have always been a poster child for massive depreciation too.

If the idea of using vehicle batteries expands to include these, why not? [Apart from cost, practicalities of installation, needing 4x charging infrastructure ... ;) ]
Just buy the truck with charged battery, plug it into the house. Put a bit of charge into it from solar panels and overnight.

Use it as a daily driver.

Drive it to the battery swap place, swap battery, drive home, plug in.

Driving back from hospital on the M1 yesterday i noticed a big battery storage plant near Luton. Normally I'm the one driving so I don't get to enjoy the sights from the Motorway.

I didn't know it was there, I'm guessing it's one of these places. Even to me grid storage still feels like something off in the future, but it is happening now...

"The problem is believed to relate to the ‘ARB6’ recall which was issued in November by the DVSA.

"The reason for that recall, according to the DVSA, was: ‘A short circuit within the battery modules during the vehicle’s service life cannot be ruled out under certain circumstances which could lead to thermal events and later to a fire in the vehicle.’"

I'm also wondering why it's not covered under warranty. A quick Google says the car is 3 years old at most (Cupra Born) and has an 8 year battery warranty.

They said they were replacing the pyro fuse.

My guess is that it's an insurance write off because noone could justify taking the battery out to replace what it actually a relatively minor thing.

The pack probably weighs quite a few hundred kilos. Wonder how they plan to lift it back up. Or how they got it down!

The Morning Midas, is apparently STILL on fire, a week after fire broke out

3,000 cars were on their way from China to Mexico.

"UK-based shipowner Zodiac Maritime, which manages the vessel, has since confirmed that the fire originated in the section of the ship carrying electric vehicles."

How long before it becomes prohibitively expensive to insure ships carrying EVs?

Interesting - don't think I've actually seen an EV battery pack before. Extra interesting as that's the model I'm about to be leasing (delivery date is now end of this month ish).

And thanks to a quick Google I now know what a Pyro fuse is too. Cheers Dazzle 👍

Mr. Dazzle wrote: Mon Jun 09, 2025 6:49 am Also not really the point. My point was to show that this swappable battery thing loads of people suggest is already going on.
And with a good sense of timing, BBC have a story today about cars which do the same thing.

Note how it's a Chinese company again. Working as I do for a very much not Chinese OEM, it does make me wonder who my boss will be in 10 years
