A few months back I bought a Shoei Neotech in a sale. It's still not as comfy as my Arai,I've concluded that there's something in the talk about about Arai shaped heads being different to Shoei shaped heads & I'm Arai..
Time to pack the panniers now,the forecast's sunshine for a week so I'm on the Liverpool-Douglas ferry in the morning :D

What's on ?

Four of us rode to a nice bar in the mountains this morning. Only it was 10ยบ and thick fog for a good portion of the mountain and the bar was closed when we got there. We did go to another bar but this was the only pic I took.

Nothing that I'm aware of,but last year it pissed down for Classc TT week & the year before I was having a load of building work done so I've not been to the IOM for a couple of years. It's forecast sunny weather for the next week so I'm going back to the IOM.Also at least I've had a holiday if we get fuel shortages with this Middle East oil stuff

I always used to enjoy the days between racing more tbh. Ride around all day finding different places. More leisurely. Racing schedule and weather seems to mess it all up these days.

Think there's some nice beaches right up top somewhere i want to find next time. Enjoy. ๐Ÿ‘

Plenty of genteel tourist stuff on the Island.

Beaches and cliffs are lovely down south , there's seal beaches up north, there's Laxey, Niarbyl, Peel.

Quite a few museums. I think there's routes for hill walking.

The Island also often hosts big tournaments for odd sports, so it's quite possible there's something going on the week you're there.

Booked the afternoon off as its sunny, got a ride in...
Was all fine until I pulled into a gravel layby with off camber sloping the wrong way (getting my excuses in, full tank of fuel, top heavy etc) you know what's coming, dropped it, downhill and could hardly reach the grab handles, but did in the end heave it back up!! Anyhow rest of ride stayed upright, so good news:)

To be fair, once you're past the balance point, usually on one leg and off camber, bikes are bastard heavy!

Hopefully not much damage.

Had a full afternoon out on some local lanes yesterday, avoided the Dales as there was a big 3 peaks event on. Abandoned the first one as it got too steep before the crossing and wasn't sure of my ability to get it the other side. Second lane was a reverse attempt of the one I rode last year on road tyres, I'd completely forgotten how steep the climb out was and had to paddle down a short section this time. When I got to the bottom and took my helmet off and earplugs out I realised a family was on the other side of the wall having a bit of a paddle, looked a really nice spot too.
Image

Then it was over to Keighley to have a look at the road over Ilkley Moor, obviously on a sunny Saturday it was very busy so it was a gentle chug but worth it for the views.Image

Ilkley was heaving all along the riverside and it was good to get away from there and onto the next lane which took me in the direction of Bolton Abbey. A few gates but pleasant enough with a couple of of tricky ruts which I was pleased to get through with just one pause. The final bit onto the road looked like it would be tough going in anything but dry conditions.

Then it was onto my next abandon, glad I had a little walk down before committing as it got pretty steep with a few roots just around the corner where I stopped.

Then it was off home and what should have been the last track which is just an uneventful gravel road, but when I got to the end a couple of guys, who unbeknownst to me had been following me, pulled up next to me and we got chatting. Turns out they were local but didn't know one of the other lanes near me as it's signposted as the Pennine Bridleway even though it's a UCR so I showed them where that one was before calling it a day. Managed to properly bottom the front forks so I think a fork service and heavier oil might be in order.

@Ditchfinder Great to see a dual purpose bike being used as such. 8-)

I wish we had trails locally,I really fancy chilled days doing that.

Needed some more coffee and could have done a mail order but Sat morning was lovely and Saffron Waldon is only a 60 mile round trip away, so decided on a trip to his stall in the market :D The town was packed traffic wise and there was a fun fair on but the bike park was empty except for a GS that was leaving as I arrived. His bike stank of fuel, so hopefully he spilt some and not a leak from somewhere.

By the time I got home I had the best smelling top box in the world

A sunny Sunday,so the main routes were clogged with the usual shite,so once again I sought out the quiet places.
Better surfaces too. 8-)

Nipped out to the local bike night for a coffee and look see...
Image
a DKW old German bike (largest bike manufacturer around 1920 and blended into Audi, according to the www), reckon a 125.

Also saw this Honda 350, quite nice with grippy tyres.

General view:)

I've never seen one in the flesh! That's the bike that BSA based the Bantam on, the IP for it was "war reparations" and the Bantam engine is just a mirror-image of that one.
