Yesterday I met a friend for coffee - he's heading back to the uk for a few weeks. Then I headed to the valley to get some 'socks' on prescription from the pharmacy

I do love the French health system, but living in resort is a bit of a bastard for stuff like that sometimes. The socks the physio wants me to try are not fully covered by the health system but the top up insurance normally covers most of the balance (if not all)

I took the prescription to the pharmacie up here to get the horrible socks and on Weds I went in, tried on the ordered socks, yes they fit, then we went to the till to sort it out. The lady did the processing and then said "cinquante deux euros quarante six" WTAF?? So I checked that my translation was correct. Cinq, deux??? Yup, correct

I suspect I looked like a goldfish. Totally gobsmacked. How much are these bastard things?? 65,90€

So I just said no!! Regardless of how much the physio says I 'need' old lady socks, no WAY can I afford that!!! And cancelled the order for the second pair!


Yesterday I headed to the valley for a French lesson and went into the pharmacie in Bourg to see what they could do, knowing that prices up here are generally 2 - 2.5 times the valley price

I talked to the guy in there and also said that they are too expensive in resort. The price the one up here wanted to charge was printed on the back of the prescription and so he looked and his face did what mine probably did when she told me the price!! LOL Made me feel better, still excessive but at least another pharmacist also thinks it was mad!! The price for the same socks in Bourg was - 33,40€ !!!

I ended up with both types for the total for 26€ - short socks and long socks. God knows what the pharmacie up here would have charged for the long ones!!


Then I went for the first french lesson in about 3 weeks - despite the fact that I don't get to talk to many people up here in French, the teacher is really pleased with my progress Must try harder to integrate and talk to more people!!


On the way home I stopped at some friends' chalet for a homemade pizza evening cos some of the seasonaires have been over this week to do the meetings for their Residency Cards. Awesome to catch up with them - and have homemade pizza. Damn those pizza ovens are FANTASTIC!!!

Yesterday. Robed and did internment of ashes for a family that now live outside the parish. They were baptised and married in the Church as were their parents who had a lot to do with the Church years ago. It was a lovely service with humour, some quiet thoughts and deep reverence. Best bits were the laughter at memories and being able to mourn and yet still embrace life.

Booked return flight to Istanbul for beginning of October, £55.

Go on the 1st, return on the 4th, 2nd and 3rd at the F1 Turkish GP.

I work for a company owned by a Hong Kong Corporation, I've just been given access to the parent company intranet.

I obviously searched for my own name, I appeared on contact lists, etc.. but I also I appear on the Corporate IT organisation chart, twice.

Once as European Head of IT and then again as the parent companies Cyber Security Specialist. I should ask for a pay rise (although then they might notice I'm not a cyber security specialist).

Just got through the front door from a week away and I receive a text informing me another friend had passed away from cancer.

Fuck cancer.

Slept after nights, cleaned the ferrets cage, back to work and a huge steak n chips after fettling a colleagues son’s MTB gears (I REALLY HATE WORKING ON B.S.O.’s)

Done the second day of a three day first aid course.

Got the show pony out of the garage, tarted it up a bit, ordered some bits for it and put it back in the garage.

It's getting an outing next month.

I got up to see lovely sunshine. Great as I've signed up to a yoga class across the way - outdoor one!!

Now there are some clouds wandering over - not impressed!!! Will need to dig out a warmer to I think!! LOL

Must be awful to visit a place with such restrictive regulations. Where is it you live again?

Did the yoga class - mostly sunshine And all in French!! I usually (well, used to usually, only been once this year when she started outdoor yoga) go to a class in the valley run by an American lady but she makes SOOOO many comments like "if you can't manage this with your arm, do this", pretty much constantly. It's bad enough that I can't, but having someone remind me and tell everyone in the group that I can't pee'd me off. Last time (after a gap of about a year) it really upset me, so I didn't go back

I told the lady this morning that I had issues with my shoulder, explained exactly what and said that she needn't worry or adjust as I could change some things and just not do others

I did have to adjust/change a lot But it was really good to have a class without being constantly singled out for being a spazz.

I know the American lady thinks she's being kind. Maybe she feels she has to say that stuff to cover herself for insurance. But it really really made the classes difficult because I hate that I can't use my arm properly. I was never much good at yoga pre shoulder issue, but I could at least put both hands over my head, stretch them out to the sides and balance on them for things like the downdog stuff. Now I can balance on my hands and feet for a little while, then I just have to change things to work for me. Can't use both arms for most of the positions. And yes. That is still seriously affecting me. But I have to get on with it and try not to think about that too much or I get miserable.

So today's class was awesome as she just let me adjust and change things to work for me with zero comments to me. Bloody awesome

It does depend where you are in the UK. Where I was, if we wanted to go to Wales for a play (which is where my riding buddy headed to every weekend) then you have to use motorway. Not just Motorway, but average speed camera motorway. Pretty much every route off the M4 was a LONG way round and almost certainly would have had cameras/police cars on it.
He kinda knew the places the police would wait with mobile camera once past Chepstow, but it was pretty much impossible to avoid them completely when we were out
