Life on a small island as an immigrant suits some, life in London as an immigrant suits some. (Let's face it a lot of the people that claim to be Lahndaners were born in/live in Kent and Essex and most of the people I lived and worked with there were 'incomers'...it's a city of transients).

When I was applying to Uni I was just bedazzled by the possibilities of, well, everywhere....and everywhere has possibilities. Heck, some people like Barnsley. I even applied to Exeter!

France? Oh yeah (but pref not Dordogneshire), Paris? Yes please. Cities are good at soaking people up into the melting pot.

I think if you don't get excited by the idea of living in new places you've got old. It happens.

Funnily enough, it was getting old (along with retirement and the the mortgage paid off) that gave us the opportunity to move.

But after a lot of thinking, driving around, and thinking more about what we actually wanted, we decided that 'here' can't easily be bettered

Yes, having made the move back to Cornwall it ain't all sunshine. The 2 nearest branches of my bank have closed, my car main dealer is now 80 miles away rather than 30, the nearest John Lewis is 80 miles away (that is a MAJOR concern fir Mrs CJ), theatre is miles away, etc etc etc. Better the devil you know, especially if it is near civilization.

We pretty much quartered most of England in the quest to find 'more house and land for less ££ in a place we'd like to live'. Went on holidays based on 'what would it be like to live here?' etc. In the end just thought 'sod it, here we are, here we stay, we landed in a sweet spot'.

The joke is, when we were jumping for the jelly beans, career-wise, we'd have gone wherever the jelly beans were and, probably, had a fine time wherever.

Once you have too much choice it's easier not to make one at all.

Filly was keen, for several reasons, to be down there.

But, after visiting the area and viewing it as potential residents, the 'holiday memories' shine soon tarnished.

This place suits me well enough. If I was minded to I could be happy.

TBF that's way less of a factor that it was 40 years ago... it's just not really a thing now.

I wouldn't do it on a 1990's Ducati.. or an Aprilia... but a modern bike, i wouldn't worry

Must be three weeks since i bought the Fazer 600. Today was the first chance i have had to ride it properly. It gets to licence loosing speeds rather fast. Handles better that it should for a budget bike. Brakes are amazing up front. Back needs work but apart from bending my key i came home with a huge grin on my coupon.

Oh and my step daughters neighbour has one he is doing up to sell. It has a luggage rack what he has offered me as a swap for my Grab rail

When my cat greets me he does the normal cat thing of sticking his arse in the air and pushing his front paws out and using my boots as a scratching post. He does this with trainers, work boots, bike boots etc.

When I'm wearing slippers he just pats my foot with his paws as he know his claws would cause discomfort to me.

I appreciate this small token of care.
