A couple of weeks ago at Rheola the van didn't have enough juice in it after the day with doors open (lights don't go out), using the 12v washer and stuff... So i needed a jump start. Spent 20 mins finding someone with leads/jumper.

On the way home i remembered i had leads in the van under the seats

Yesterday after coaching our pseudo-teammate needed a jump and this time i remembered i had them and within 30s of me coming back to rescue them, they were on their way
It probably made her happier than me... but i still smiled.

Not time you put in a small solar panel and a leisure battery. A proper split charge relay will allow the solar to top up the start battery when the leisure is full.

Any bit of bare metal can be an earth, as long as it's not something like an engine mount that is rubber isolated.

I would say no if south as every time i go it bloody rains. TBF the lowest my leisure batteries have been is 12.9v on dull days. 14.2 is the average when not in use but even when listening to music through a soundbar running of an inverter the power drain is only point something daft like 0.5v for a couple of hours.

As KFB says, just earth to the nearest earthed thing you can get the clamp on. (I looked at what the car manual says and, as with the Transit the earthing point they tell you to use is too far from the +ve terminal*, but the first time I saw a Noco in use the recovery chap just clamped onto an engine bracket casting). I suppose you could extend the Noco lead with a jump lead but that adds to the resistance.

* the battery is under the rear passenger seat somewhere so there's a +ve terminal under the bonnet.

The transit custom battery is under the drivers seat which doesn't help with electric seats. The +ve connection under the bonnet is easier to find than a nearby earthing point, I found one but it was many years ago so I don't remember where.

When i used to collect cars I rarely used the battery negative pole. We always clamped on the bonnet release clamp or top of the suspension strut etc. A lot of cars/vans have batteries in the cab now and a charge/jump point under the bonnet, again positive onto that and neg onto chassis anywhere you like.

As an aside, if you ever get a vehicle with odd ignition/non starting problems, try using a jump lead to earth the engine to the chassis.

It's not really insignificant but it made me seriously happy.

Last Saturday I tried to meet up with some friends only for her to call me and say that he was in ICU after suffering a stroke the day before whilst out skiing He'd managed to ski back to resort only to be helicoptered to Grenoble

She asked me not to tell anyone as she wanted to tell their kids and other family before anyone knew. So, I didn't share (didn't see anyone to talk to about it anyway) until yesterday morning when a French friend up here asked me how I was and I burst into tears (he was a smidge overwhelmed ) and I told a couple of people there that a friend was in ICU after a stroke (had to learn the word for a stroke!!).

Yesterday evening (well, just before 7pm) I was heading to meet some friends and I saw her and shouted hi - turns out they'd just got back from the hospital and he was walking and seemed pretty ok (not 100% but pretty damned ok considering!!)


So, that made me so very very happy. These two people are people I really do count as family. They've been absolutely lovely to me since my first season here and even bring me Haggis (and some Cadburys chocolate) at the start of every season It was terrifying to think he was in ICU - I know, it was worse for her and the rest of the family, but I do think of them as family - and I'm just so very very happy that he's doing ok

Had a surprise leaving do thrown for me by my Malta team. Complete with a round of applause and a cake with a sparkler in it I'm very touched and a bit overwhelmed tbh.

I'll miss this lot a ton

As I rode down into the car park I had no idea I was singing along so loudly, until I saw the security guard walking through giving me a very funny look and laughing to himself.

Had a potential legal disaster. But just seen our lawyer and she said we are 100% legal and she has exactly the same situation.

Not gonna say how much is could have affected us, but it would have changed our lives a lot.
