Cheap secondhand EV's sounds like awsome news to me.

Then you can do what all the Americans seem to be doing, replace the old battery with something sub-Chinese quality and claim on the Fire part of the TPF insurance.
TBH the s/h prices just look like the current (arf!) premium on EVs gets scrubbed off immediately they hit the S/H market. So, low miles s/h electric car? Hell, why not?

For me and I guess a lot of other people it's not knowing what life the battery has had. Was it always supercharged at the services or usually charged overnight at home? That goes a long way to knowing what condition it is likely to be in, if early adopters were likely to be cash rich and time poor then it doesn't look good.Count Steer wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2024 6:30 pmThen you can do what all the Americans seem to be doing, replace the old battery with something sub-Chinese quality and claim on the Fire part of the TPF insurance.

I wouldn't mind an EV and ranges have improved but it seems like a lot of expense and risk, I'll hold onto my diesel a while longer to see how it all settles.

Dunno how much batteries are for smaller EVs, but a Tesla is around £13-16k and a Taycan c£40k apparently. I could get two Ingenum engines with change for that!

The whole "fast charging your battery kills it" thing is massively overstated, but it's now lodged in the public consciousness as another one of those things Everyone Knows™.

I actually looked at getting an old Nissan Leaf or similar battery for my house, they should be cheaper than brand new domestic storage ones and loads bigger. Even a 50% fucked one is still bigger than most off the shelf domestic batteries.
Seems like they all get nabbed up to put in shipping container sized storage units for industrial applications!

How many ingenium engines has your car had so far
I've seen stories of 30k cars on their third.

Service interval is 20k!! twenty thousand miles between oil changes ffs! From what I can gather if you do oil changes every 6-10k they’re fine?KungFooBob wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2024 10:12 amHow many ingenium engines has your car had so far

I think most of the issues depend on if they're mounted longitudinally or not, which dictates the length of the manifold and the cat/dpf location.Taipan wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2024 10:58 amService interval is 20k!! twenty thousand miles between oil changes ffs! I know from my research that I would never buy a car with a diesel ingenium engine

Yes the heat from the DPF caused some problems. I think it’s the single turbo version and I’m sure o read they rerouted it on later models?KungFooBob wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2024 11:14 amI think most of the issues depend on if they're mounted longitudinally or not, which dictates the length of the manifold and the cat/dpf location.Taipan wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2024 10:58 amService interval is 20k!! twenty thousand miles between oil changes ffs! I met a Land Rover mechanic on holiday and he told me the twin turbo 2.0 is fine but only if you do sub 10k oil changes or bi annually. I had mine serviced even though it had only done 3k but to be safe I pay for the JLR Warranty…

Bloke takes an ID Buzz on a 500 mile trip in the winter and stops to charge a lot. I found it watchable.

This months Auto Trader EV giveaway is an ID Buzz.
Last months was some Chinese SUV thing that I'd never heard of, that I was actually glad I hadn't won.

If they made a Kombi version of the ID Buzz Cargo I might be a bit interested but: my T6 Kombi has a payload of around 1200kg, around twice the ID Buzz Cargo and there are times when I'll put a 1000kg in the back of the T6.

Car makers 'withholding deliveries of new petrol and diesel models until January' to hit 2024 EV sales targets
"...car makers are holding back deliveries until January in the latest underhand tactic to meet binding electric vehicle sales targets and avoid hefty fines, according to a boss at a leading car retailer chain."
Government mandating a certain percentage of vehicles sales have to be EVs was always a stupid idea. I wonder how long it will take them to come to their senses. Another two or three years?

Toyota's in the US are shitting the bed when owners follow the "oil change every 10k miles" recommendation. The owners who ignore that & change the oil every 5k miles aren't having any problems.

New Renault 5 Turbo anyone?
I think we're all just gonna have to get over OEMs using the "Turbo" tag on EVs. That ship has sailed.

That is fucking vile what is a shame. I can see the Renault 5 in that but the guff wheels . From bumper/spoiler. Then stupid air flow pods at the rear arches. White with yellow. Nah. That a soon to be production car?Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Sun Dec 15, 2024 9:34 pm New Renault 5 Turbo anyone?

Yeah it's a mega version of the new 5.
The "Turbo" is an homage to the original Turbo, which was also all daft wheels and massive arches.

The new 'Turbo' actually looks better than the old one (but that's not difficult).

Sorry, can't see a Renault 5 Turbo without thinking of this...
