A beautiful, cloudless, dry and sunny morning here. Not a hint of moisture or frost. Guess what? All those lovely bone dry roads are now gritted. No rain forecast for a week.
Why do they do that? What part of a dry road is going to freeze?
Bah.

We got out for a spin, there was some debris on the roads but nowhere closed.Barry who went through 5 bikes last year has chopped in the Triumph Scrambler for a 650 Versys.I thought the Triumph would have stayed until easter but we're not even out of January & he's onto his second bike of the year

.
Considering the state of the roads I only had one moment,on the way home we were riding into low winter sun & I didn't spot a patch of gravel quickly enough, the back end stepped out but we stayed upright
I like the cut of barry's jib!

The 4 of us had a good day out on Monday & he was talking about a Fazer 1000 in the local bike shop.I think the only reason the 650 Versys has lasted a few months is because he's been moving house & it's winter.I reckon over the last 20 years he's had more houses then the other 3 of us combined!

Guzzis do keep your knees warm in cold weather...

It froze last night but as it was dry & sunny I waited until late morning then did 50 miles on the Street Triple.
I was hoping to avoid the salt but after about 10 miles I went down a lane that had been gritted so decided that as the bike's now got salt on it I might as well go for a decent spin, ended up doing 50 miles

The joys of cleaning all the unrequired salt off the assorted vehicles yesterday after the weeks commuting and instructing ... busy day

I'm resigning myself to the likelihood that the first time I ride any of the bikes in 2025 will be in France in early/mid April. There's no way I'm going out on two wheels with the amount of salt and grit there is on the roads at present and I don't see that lessening any time soon. We'll probably have a torrential downpour a day or so before I leave for France, knowing how these things normally play out.

Come to Yorkshire - too tight to grit. No sign of salt on my commute this week despite some pretty hard frosts.

I'm off to Thailand for a holiday 4 April, so reckon it'll be mid April earliest for me. We'd need days of rain to clear that lot
