Re: interesting bikes found randomly..
Can't decide if that's genius or lunacy.
On the one hand the skis look quite well designed/fitted - can't work out what the spring is supposed to be doing though. On the other, leaving the mudguards on seems a bit shortsighted. (Maybe that's more of a problem with cars when the wheel arch gets packed with snow/ice?).
Doubt is not a pleasant condition.

I guessed that the skis pivoted and the springs provided a bit of support.Count Steer wrote: ↑Tue Jan 10, 2023 8:26 amCan't decide if that's genius or lunacy.

Husqvarna did one for the army that had sprung skis with footrests, so the rider held them down. Autobox engine traily bike.

A possibly slightly more effective version. It was a guy who did a cross-Siberia trip a couple of years ago:

Chain's almost loose enough to be a caterpillar track
Still, I guess that's not the friendliest environment.

I couldn't work out how the spring would be put in tension, at first glance it needs to be a compression spring to cope with upward movement but I guess it holds the ski up until you apply pressure with your foot a bit like the Husqvarna one?Horse wrote: ↑Tue Jan 10, 2023 10:25 amI guessed that the skis pivoted and the springs provided a bit of support.Count Steer wrote: ↑Tue Jan 10, 2023 8:26 amCan't decide if that's genius or lunacy.

XV cafe customs are really hard to get right, they're too long and the frame is weird. The chain-drive models are helped because they're not so screwed over wheel alternatives (so that makes it a TR1?). I dunno if this example floats my boat as such but it's better than most!

Looking closer, there's a clamp which appears to have a range of possible positions.Count Steer wrote: ↑Tue Jan 10, 2023 11:09 amI couldn't work out how the spring would be put in tension, at first glance it needs to be a compression spring to cope with upward movement but I guess it holds the ski up until you apply pressure with your foot a bit like the Husqvarna one?Horse wrote: ↑Tue Jan 10, 2023 10:25 amI guessed that the skis pivoted and the springs provided a bit of support.Count Steer wrote: ↑Tue Jan 10, 2023 8:26 am

That just prompted me to look up 'that' jump from the film - I hadn't realised it was Paul Edmondson until now.
