There's more to it than that, I thought it was mainly caster effect but that's still only part of it.

At school in our physics class out teacher gave us a bicycle wheel to old and turn it through a sideways 180arc, iyswim, then he span it and we then had to try and turn it again and so demonstrated the gyroscopic effect!

Up north we couldn't afford wheels. We did it with an 'oop n stick

Pretty sure you could make a perpetual motion machine with enough magnets and gyroscopes. Maybe throw in a newton's cradle just to be sure.
