I believe it is normal to stuff a rag in the hole to help with the smell, that is one job I was happy to pay a plumber for.v8-powered wrote: Mon May 10, 2021 10:06 amLol, I did check for floaters first.Potter wrote: Mon May 10, 2021 2:32 amIt's always better if you flush it first.v8-powered wrote: Sun May 09, 2021 8:16 pm Ripped out our downstairs toilet. It was more to do with the engineered wood floor that had been down for 15 piss-soaked years and the whiff coming from the drain after I'd removed the loo that has troubled me, at least have an incentive to get the job completed double-quick now so I don't have to carry on smelling the drain![]()

Just had FiL round, regaling us how he only left the kitchen for 10 minutes but in that time MiL had put the kettle on the gas hob, the 240V mains powered plastic kettleTaipan wrote: Mon May 10, 2021 1:36 pm Met the plumber at my Step Mothers and waited while he diagnosed and fixed the fault with her central heating. Yup. It's a horrible condition that makes you watch someone you know being dismantled. Step Ma lives alone, so i decommissioned her gas cooker at Social Services request. Mikrowavvey meals only for her!MrLongbeard wrote: Mon May 10, 2021 8:50 pmJust had FiL round, regaling us how he only left the kitchen for 10 minutes but in that time MiL had put the kettle on the gas hob, the 240V mains powered plastic kettleTaipan wrote: Mon May 10, 2021 1:36 pm Met the plumber at my Step Mothers and waited while he diagnosed and fixed the fault with her central heating. It's death by instalments. I watched my Stepmum fade by degrees over a 7 year period. A fall and a broken hip hurried along the inevitable,by which time she was forgetting how to eat or drink. Death was a relief and a release.Taipan wrote: Mon May 10, 2021 9:05 pm

Dementia sucks balls, she's also taken to putting the pots in the washing machine.Taipan wrote: Mon May 10, 2021 9:05 pmYup. My stubborn old Da was 92 and still looking after my Stepmum, refusing all offers of help, until he too fell and broke his hip. At that point the whole house of cards fell down. It's hell on wheels for families, you are quite right.MrLongbeard wrote: Mon May 10, 2021 9:14 pm Dementia sucks balls, she's also taken to putting the pots in the washing machine.
I take solace in that she doesn't have any idea, isn't suffering and can best be described as being away with the fairies, it's doing a right bloody number on the rest of the family though.
This weekend I shall mostly be fitting a hidden gas shut off valve and smoke detectors for my FiL
It might be worth getting an old fashioned stove top whistling kettle.MrLongbeard wrote: Mon May 10, 2021 8:50 pmJust had FiL round, regaling us how he only left the kitchen for 10 minutes but in that time MiL had put the kettle on the gas hob, the 240V mains powered plastic kettleTaipan wrote: Mon May 10, 2021 1:36 pm Met the plumber at my Step Mothers and waited while he diagnosed and fixed the fault with her central heating. Do you not get bored living on what is essentially a tiny island for tourists? I'd go stir crazy after a week. I believe there's a ferry to Morocco which lets face it, looks a more attractive place to live. The nearest bit of mainland is Western Sahara which is a bit of war zone so probably best avoided.
Natural. I've dived plenty, and it's as it should be.

Bite your tongue all you like, it strikes me as very sad. Look at my cheap beer etc but wherever you go it's all the same. Today I rode up a volcano, it's a volcanic island and if you want to go up then that's all you have. It's a small island, if you want to leave it's either a plane to somewhere or a boat to an African war zone. GSXR.Yorick wrote: Mon May 10, 2021 11:55 pm

It's fucking amazing. We love it. If you don't, just fuck off with your cold, wet UK
LEts be honest, how often in a given month do you go socially outside of something the size of the island he's on ? I know for us, it's not very often. Lets say 90mins driving, how often do you go further than 90 mins ? We're mostly home-birds i think in this country and don't stray often from our nest. The only real times we do is for MTB stuff, this weekend i'm going to the Peaks which is 3 hours away, but that's a trip that's been planned for months, not just a spur of the moment thing.Pirahna wrote: Tue May 11, 2021 1:49 amBite your tongue all you like, it strikes me as very sad. Dunno, but on the sand thing i can't work out where it's come from then. If it's a volcanic island then surely sand comes from the break up of the land/rocks on the outside edges... so would in theory be black sand instead of golden. The times we've visited his rock it was more rock than sand and whilst over by the lighthouse there's some light coloured sandy stuff, it's certainly in the minority from what we saw.
It's had a while to settle, having been imported before you arrived
I thought there was something about it being imported in the museum place we went to, but i couldn't recall.slowsider wrote: Tue May 11, 2021 7:46 amIt's had a while to settle, having been imported before you arrived
