I cracked out the BoE inflation calculator. My first insurance on a 957cc Fiesta was £600 tpft, in todays money that's £1,600.
Kids today have it easy.
I also cracked open the BofE's inflation calculator. the insurance on my first car, a Ford Consul, was about £23 in 1969. In today's money that's about £403.
The insurance company, Vehicle and General, did go bust in 1971 mind. Luckily I managed to survive the first one and a half years without hitting anything or anybody.

Using DHL's option to have parcel sent to Service point which is just down the road from me. Delivered at 12:19 when I was away in Reading taking daughter to uni for interview. But they have not sent me the notification of delivery or the text (they have both email and mobile number). Phoned this evening twice to get notification, and neither have been sorted. Will have to try again tomorrow. Swingarm for the Triumph. I won't be able to do anything until about 3 weeks now, but it is annoying that the system has failed to send the codes etc....

Flying to German to hold the warehouse managers hand during a WMS roll out... only to find they did 95% of the work (virtually transferring the stock into the Bin locations) on their own the day before you arrived.
Oh well, I got a free chocolate on the plane.

What you need is a WMS that cuts out unnecessary movements of stock and labour.

Just reeling at the bill for 30 of your Eenglish quids for 5 pints in Bridgewater.
I dread to think what it's gonna be at the posh hotel in Truro.

The more exclusive the location, the higher the prices. It's always been like that. I paid over £10 a pint in Mayfair recently, whereas I hear it practically buttons on a volcano in the Atlantic!

Gardening. I decided to do my Mum's after paying a firm to cut it all down. Now I have the task of turning it all over and removing all the roots before it comes back. I'm already losing.
Is anyone actually still into gardening or was that a 20th century fad? It's all paving, shingle and decking now and so it should be. F*** bamboo. F*** trees and large shrubs. F*** lawns. And you know what you can do with your rose bushes.

He wants to go out in the garden in this lovely weather and have a nap. Assuming he's had the good sense to rip all the vegetation out of his garden and replace it with paving and a decking, like a normal person does.

Feeling incompetent in the workplace
As you may be aware I work in a private ski chalet for an English family during the winter. Lovely, lovely people, but they are effing loaded. People of this ilk don't want to know the details, they don't want the hows and whys of how things get done, they just want things done. They want to be able to stroll into a place and everything works. That's kinda where I come in.
The boss arrived late last night.
First issue,
"does the fire work" (gas fire operated by remote control)
No sorry
"Why not, this has been going on for months"
The last I got told was the engineer was going to come out and show me how to fix common problems, I'm still waiting for that to happen.
*the main problem here is that the engineer doesn't think there's anything wrong with the fire, he just thinks I'm an incompetent moron who doesn't know how the fire works. He has refused to come and see the fire for himself as he is convinced it's in perfect working order. Get a different engineer/ company I hear you say. No, my boss doesn't allow me to source technicians, I have to go through the architect and she doesn't GAF.
Second issue
"you sent my spare helmet and gloves to Val D'Isere"
Well yes I did, but only after I had sent pictures to our man in Val and said "is this your kit" to which he replied "yes that's mine"
Third issue
"where are my ski poles, I put them in the car the last time you picked us up"
they aren't in the car or the ski room which tells me they never made it to the car and being as the helmet and gloves I sent to Val were left in the restaurant I picked you all up from, I suspect you left the poles there !
There's an argument that these things are not my fault. As mentioned my boss doesn't care who is at fault, he doesn't want excuses, he wants things to work! He's not even been here 12 hours and I've failed him 3 times

A bit of the trim has been loose for ages on the kitchen door step. I take it off, clean it up and refit it today, Mrs M comes back from the dog walk, I point it out saying please don't step on it as the glue is setting, 30 seconds later what's she doing..........
A few minutes later she's stepping on it again, I may have been a bit terse.
Ten minutes later "you don't seem very happy this morning"

I wonder where the new patio's going.

I'm thinking about getting solar panels and seeing the government's announcement about zero VAT on renewables I went looking for prices. As I have a bungalow and I'm not scared of some simple wiring I looked for DIY options thinking I could forgo the feed in option. VAT is only reduced when you use government authorised fitters and then only when the cost of labour is more than the cost of the parts, anything else still has 20% added.
So to save the 20% tax I have to pay 50% extra to an already overpriced company.
