My Headmaster was v reluctant to support applications to local-ish Uni's that pupils could live at home and attend. His view was it was 'formative' to go off into the big wide world and fend for yourself. It was easier then though because there was plenty of accommodation available at reasonable £s. I went off with a spring in my step, constrained by a large holdall, with clothes and books in, on a bus having found accommodation in a shared, rented house, through the Uni. (Imagine! Organised it remotely without Internet, mobile phones etc. Just land-line phone and letter  ).

I'm not sure that school prepares pupils for that approach any more and, tbh, Uni life sounds a bit pants these days, if you're not flush with cash.

But she's back to her old self now. I told her this afternoon that she's got her sparkle back. She agrees.
My daughter struggled for the first term too. It is a bit of a shock for many kids. She will be OK, just make sure she knows M & D have her back.

Kids. Miss 'em when they're gone, despair at the mess and inconsiderate behaviour when they're back.

It's what being a dad (and mum) is all about, i suppose. Love 'em to bits.

Cats + Laser Pointers :D

Bought one 'cause my two kittens/small cats are going stir crazy in the house and need some "enrichment". They've not been fixed yet so they can't run around outside. I've basically got my cats on the end of a shiny red string now, they can't help themselves. As soon as they see the dot, they're off.

Best bit is though, I've got two cats, so I can race 'em like greyhounds

I don't know how many public holidays in UK, but there's 14 here. Don't affect me much, but my working pals love it :obscene-birdiedoublered:

There are 8 in the UK. The problem with Spanish holidays is that if it falls on a weekend it's not carried over, you get a day off that you probably would have had off anyway.

Meh. I'd have thought it would be a full rigged tea clipper or something special to lift a road and a railway. That's just a glorified barge. :(

It’s the Isle of Sheppey not St Tropez :P

I had a holiday on the Isle of Grain, makes Sheppey look exotic.

This, or something very much like it was on an episode of Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em on BBC2 earlier tonight.

Frank was doing his driving test and ended up parked at the top!

Skied with my nephew before work this morning :D I was knackered before skiing and I'm extra knackered now after work and going out with the kids. But the skiing bit did make me very very happy - both the skiing and the fact that I was skiing with my nephew, who is pretty darned good on planks :D :D

Awesome day out on the mountain yesterday.

I knew this would be a last chance before I actually have to do some work for a couple weeks.

I caught the first lift from outside my accom, my mate Danny was heading out on skis from a nearby village and we were looking to meet up. The sun was blazing, the pistes were mint corduroy and I was feeling keen.
It took a few runs before I met up with Danny and we immediately headed for one of the steepest pistes in the 3 Valleys. I sent it, literally leaped over the roller at the top and I was gone. I know Danny is a very competent skier, but I'm pretty quick on a board. I'm fairly sure that it's on this very run that I hit my top speed of 110 Kmh a few years ago. I saw this as an opportunity to beat that record. No fresh snow for a few days and cold temperatures had ensured that it was hard packed and fast out there and I was absolutely flying. With my board chattering like a freezing Jack Nicholson I lost my bottle and decided to slow down. I looked behind me, I could not see Danny. I came to a complete stop just intime to see Danny fly over a roller, backwards (intentionally).

We flew all the way down to La Praz before getting the Bubble back to 1850. From there it was a short run to Plantery lift. I say short, because it was but we both sent a few side hits to keep the regular skiers in awe  . Up Plantery, then down to Ski Lodge with much side hits and jibbing on the way. We stopped at Le Ski Lodge in La Tania for Breakfast. I suggested we might have beer and Harriet behind the bar explained that it was compulsory. So a beer, some breakfast and a 'digestive' later, we headed back out.

That kinda set the scene for the day, we cained around, sometimes very very fast, sometimes jibbing anything, and nothing we could, we stopped again for beers and burgers at a spot I'd not been since pre covid. and just to balance life. On our way home, we stopped to aid a skier who had gone full Noggin!! Her skies were at least 30 yards further up the hill than she was, and almost 30 yards apart. We picked her up and Danny walked her down the hill while I went ahead to the Pelican bar and got the beers in.

In summary, it was the longest and one of the best days out that I've had on the mountain in far too long.

Life fucking rocks :banana-dance: :banana-dance: :banana-dance:

But my strava didn't work, so I don't know if I beat my PB!!

Year end bonus!

It's not a Christmas bonus because it's a Jewish family business.

Even after the tax man has had his share, it's still better than a poke in the eye with a shitty stick.
