I'm glad Southgate has gone, he has divided fans with his coaching style, and I hated his negativity, never pushing for a second goal, playing his favourites rather than playing the in form players.
It seems judging success now includes coming second. And no one remembers who came second.
Still, I see the names Lampard, Potter and Gerrard put forward to take over. Things can go from bad to worse, and here was me looking forward to supporting England again post-Southgate.

And this is the big problem with England managers. It has to be an Englishman really and there are so few available of any quality who want to be in it for the long haul. Ultimately they are all doomed to fail and even the, fairly, succesful ones will be driven out by media and public scrutiny.
They should have begged Southgate to stay - if only because there aren't currently any viable alternatives.

God help England if they get Potter and Potterball.
At Brighton he was the master of lots of pointless possession and never getting into the 10 yard box, let alone shooting.
He was like a more cautious Southgate. Having seen the team play they became more organised, better to watch - but still only managed to avoid relegation!

I'd like to see an England team managed by Jurgen Klopp. But I doubt it will ever happen.
What English football needs is a captain and coach in the manner of Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum and allow the playes to play without fear. They wouldn't win every game but it would be much more attractive to watch.

There is no cloud, just somebody else's computer.

That's the problem every England manager faces, some people want attractive football, some can't stand the thought of England ever losing a game.
It's a poisoned chalice, that job. Damned whatever you do.

Terry Venables & Glenn Hoddle played attacking footy with fantastic players.Yambo wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 5:33 pmmangocrazy wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 5:27 pm They wouldn't win every game but it would be much more attractive to watch.

Re: UEFA Euro 24
The press and public were brutal in their assessment of the last game prior to the Euros, a nothing game friendly loss against Iceland iirc. If the press weren't so hysterical for column inches and the general public who "dont-care-about-football" but seem to be gagging to be first with their expert condemnation would shut their chin music for 5 minutes, then the England manager and team alike might be a little less tentative.

6 of the best players in the tournament were Spanish. They were clearly the best team, so perhaps no shame in coming second?

Apparently Gareth handed his resignation to the FA.
They passed it back, he passed it to Bellingham, he passed it sideways to Kane who passed it back to the keeper.
