I still have a cable oiler in the stool box though I used a graphite grease spray. Sometimes used it to squeeze a few more miles out of MTB shifter cables as well.Skub wrote: Tue Mar 19, 2024 1:34 pm Who remember this? Oiling a clutch cable. Must be a hundred years since I last did this.

This brings back memories! It’s a fine looking example and I sometimes get the urge to revisit my youth and get hold of another one. My F model was the last of the proper H1 series before the KH model came in 1976. A buddy had an identical Mack III to the one in this thread and another had the H1A in white. All three were roughly equal in straight line speed, but the disc on mine at least allowed for a small amount of stopping force

You know what is even better though? Venhill PTFE lined stainless steel cables which run completely dry
. Just need a little puff of graphite powder at the knobbly ends. Makes an enormous improvement to the control weights IME.Re: Kawasaki H1 1971

When I needed to get longer cables while turning the Falco into a chopper I fitted the Venhill PTFE/stainless cables and can honestly say they give the lightest, most responsive throttle control I've ever experienced.
Bit of a shame we're going to ride by wire, really...

Yeah. Sometimes sticking with stock stuff gets in the way of functionality. Amen to that. I'm trying very hard to keep the LC standard but the mods (albeit small) have already started with lengthening the rear shock. I think I fuggered the clutch cable by using PTFE spray. It became instantly unusable and even when I flushed the cable through with oil,the lever pull was still notchy,so I just replaced the cable. It was an easy enough job if you had four hands. The actuator behind the front sprocket was a kunt to get the nipple out of if you only had two hands like me.
Anyway,job done and lovely smooth action.
