Out for a walk a few years ago and met a bloke carrying a very messed up dog, both were covered in blood. The dog had chased and almost caught a muntjac, just as the deer was about to be caught it turned and stabbed the dog in the side, they have small pointy horns. It properly fucked the dog up.

I used to walk a hound (a Brittany) for some friends and that would chase squirrels, pheasants and deer. I used to be a bit more wary about unleashing him than they were. They nearly got it shot by a gamekeeper when it went after the birds he was rearing + once he actually did catch up with a deer. His owner was pretty distraught...what do you do when the dog is half a mile away and then what do you do, when you finally get there, with a maimed deer?

In his prime the dog was 99% lungs and muscle (and 1% brain). Lovely animal and thick as two short planks.

Slowed down when he got older, then died in his sleep on his hollibobs and was buried in the Scilly Isles. Probably chasing deer and cadging dog biscuits in doggie heaven every day now.

Here he is on his final holiday.

Possibly. First you have to kill it. Are you carrying something to do that? Then, you are 5 miles from home/your car (when we go for a walk we don't tend to walk round the block). I know where he was when this happened and I wouldn't have carried a newly slaughtered, adult deer back!

No. The dog needed training, particularly recall training. I did my best 2 days a week but when it gets undone on the other 5 it's a losing battle. (It would attempt to haul me round on the walks I did with it when it was on the lead. It did learn that if it pulled on the lead I could stand still until the earth stopped turning ) Dogs. Everything is much more exciting in the immediate future, they're desperate to be somewhere that isn't 'here' but they don't know why.

It is easier when they just wander into your garden

Yup, it's a concern and I'm not him wanting to be a hunter.
A deers a powerful animal and from how high they can jump I bet theyve got a good kick as well as the pointy end.
Squirrels just run up.a tree and leave him bounding up and down at the bottom.
Doesn't get more than a hundred yards or so away and even pheasants take off sharpish so he's back in seconds.

It's something I'm learning to keep an eye on now though. Kind of pisses me off if I have to have him on a lead on too many places cos I love to see him run.

Supposedly there are more Deer in the UK now than at any point in the last 1000 years. There are also far fewer Wolves.

Maybe you just need to teach el doggo how to catch em properly.

Ruby, on loan to us for a few days. Takes a bit of getting used to compared to little, short-legged, Westie!

Our little Frenchie pup is coming along well. Pesters the crap out of my JRT but they get alom well overall.

The pup is typically pup stupid and very inquisitive. Spent ages chasing a feather round the garden until she lost it...

I asked Sydney what she thought of this^, but she refused to put down The Times as she was just finishing the crossword....

Our two rescues being lazy as normal. Joy the greyhound finished racing about a year ago and came to us straight after and is now coming up to 4 years old this year. Remy the lurcher has been with us for about 8 years and is coming up to 14 years old. Both from Dogs Trust.

See the tracks in the background? See how regular they are, notice that they're pretty straight, small feet, no human prints too near em yet?

My dog has a habit of rolling in fox shite, it's simpler to chuck his coat in the wash than bath him, especially when I'm short of time on a morning.

Anyway, the tracks behind him are from a fox, likely the one thats been laying fox eggs all over the fucking shop and my dogs been rolling in. The stinky git.
