Sounds very much like the 'Menu del Día' places I've been to in north eastern Spain - *very* limited choice but at least one course is either meat or fish and you get a starter, main, salad, wine, water & pudding for not much money and the customers are builders, office workers & tourists like me.
They get that, the French get cuisine du marché, we get....

...Greggs. :(
But people keep going in their droves and love wailing on about how great it is.
Much like McDonalds, KFC, Burger king etc, It's Not very good, it's not well presented and it's not good value for money
Giles Coren wrote a good commentary on Macdonald’s in today’s Times.

Much like McDonalds ...
It was scary to see the queues of desperate people at the end of lockdown when the McDonald's drive-through opened.

Tom Kerridge recently said he's never eaten McDonalds because he knows what ingrediants cost you cant make a real burger for what they charge!

I go to Greggs out of preference if I want a mug of tea to take away. It's no better and no worse than the other chains except it's cheaper.

And it's better than any tea made with a Teapigs teabag.

I do like the Sausage McMuffin but doubt I eat more than 3 or 4 a year. I wouldn't give a thank you for their burgers. If i had to have a fast food burger it'd be a Burger King. That said I do have the occasional dirty burger from a burger van, but again its very rare. I'd rather just go to the chippy and used to when my kids were having take aways. Unless I'm pissed then all bets are off and i'll eat anything, normally a doner kebab!

I have used McD, but it is usually a last resort because I cannot find anything else. Gregs, no! If I want a pasty I go to a proper pasty shop. Sausage rolls are IMO usually tasteless grease pap wrapped in greasy pastry, best avoided. A proper sausage roll is 2 or more proper sausages, well browned under the grill, and placed inside a bread roll, with lashings of brown sauce. Now that I will have,.

Which is completely guff. Kerridge knows his world but not the one of mass production. The quality of McDonalds ingredients is way better than most high street eateries. They do what they do well, but people don’t have to like them.

When I worked in Aylesbury, I went to Greggs once a month. Really nice sarnies and loved the pasties.

I miss Greggs and McDonalds. McDonalds were good for stuffing your face before getting on the ferry to euroland. Saved paying for the overpriced shit food they had on offer. When we got off the ferry it was find a McDonalds for a large McMuffin. Greggs hot sausage rolls with the grease dripping out the ends were ace.

Pasties??? Pasties have pieces of real beef, if it is minced it is a pie. Even if it is pasty-shaped it is still a pie. Yes, I am looking at you Ginster!

I'm reading all this about Greggs with interest!! I used to love their chicken and mushroom thingies (not pastys but can't remember what they were called!! )

There were a couple of sweet things I liked, mostly because I never had any taste - my BDad used to be so miffed when he'd go buy a cream slice but we wanted the ones with sweet pretend cream rather than the proper fresh cream version!

I've not had a Greggs anything for years now and I do get to eat proper (Cornish/not Cornish) pastys on a fairly regular basis. Will be interesting to see just how much my tastes have changed since I last tried Greggs' stuff!!

Absolutely hate their breakfasts!! Have to resort to McDo too often in the winter do to poor planning on my part or shit weather affecting flights/transfer times. But the only thing I'll eat there now is chicken nuggets and chips or potato wedges!! LOL

Even their coffee is horrible (to me!)

I need to buy one of those thermos meal things that's stackable so I have back up for bad days!!

I'd like to know what exactly people think McDonalds are putting in their burgers

They are what they are. Certainly the least likely to give you Norovirus at that price, at the side of the road :obscene-birdiedoublered:

Can't remember who it was - probably you :D - that pointed out how strict McD are on cleanliness etc.

The issue with McD's is their burgers smell EXACTLY like gas gangrene.

Also: Lewis Hamilton is an over-rated hasbeen.

Is that like how my dad always says things taste "like battery acid"?

I wouldn't know.

Ebay is better than it used to be. No fees now for private sellers and there's plenty of buyers for the stuff I'm selling.

Feck me, you lot can whine about fuck all, if you don't like the food somewhere, don't eat there, if someone else likes it, good for them, it really doesn't matter.

Visited a mate in hospital who had it. Haven't stepped foot in McD's since.
