Well we could reach an agreement on the fixing of the Vito and associated comebacks/warranty etc on that. So in the end we went for a "send me my £10,000 back please".

So I no longer have the van. I do have 300 seats for it lol.

I then spent the next many hours on autotrader and eBay finding vans and failing.

I then viewed multiple cars and multiple dealers today

Eventually I bought

I think we all knew once there was a problem, it’d basically left the building!

ICBA to travel back though, what make and model was the head unit? Can u back it? Is it cheap now it’s second hand! 😁

Well if they'd been happy to give to my auto tech and get him to do it, we'd have been onto a winner. But that didn't quite happen.

The head unit I'll get back to my guy and take a hit on it, he can fit to something later. It's no biggy, we are where we are and I can't change that. We just get on with things and sort solutions.

At the end of the day, using man maths the Vito was £630 a year in tax alone, so I'm £450 a year up. That'll cover any losses lol.

I'm hoping not. I hope i collect it in the morning, it works perfectly and apart from the odd snippet and pic, it just does exactly what it's supposed to do, well, until many years. If that's how it all plays out, then that's ace with me. We'll have the mini-adventure down to the Alps in a few weeks time i expect, unless the wife really really hates it... But that's about it.
So not much of a season 2 then, lol :D

Key point.

Can't remember the exact year, but some time in the late naughties ish tax ceased to be about engine size and started being about CO2.

It's not bad for low emissions cars, must last few have either been free or £20pa. It picks up fairly quick when you get above about 150g/km and then goes nuts for higher emission vehicles.

Also don't look at the first owner tax if you're of a delicate disposition. ;)

But, but, but...

Wouldn't a recent Merc van have a lower CO2 output than a 20 y.o. bus like mine? Mine's listed as 208 g/Km. Do you pay tax on a vehicle's passenger carrying capability?

The Merc is 229 apparently. Something to do with it not being a van also then means it's £630 a year.

Weeksy's merc was a car for tax, van tax rates haven't changed the same so still a flat rate AFAIK.

My van's taxation class is 'Diesel Car'. It's ex-AA and has rear side windows and is a 5-seater (but I removed the rear seats early doors).

So I'm now even more confused.

Nope, it's a 1.5 petrol Ford Kuga.

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-detail ... on=at_cars

Drives really nice, looks great... should be comfortable for trip to Alps on Thursday. It'll get tested tonight and then to Silverstone on Weds by Mrs Weeksy and then assuming everyone happy, it'll go to the Alps on Thurs. Bit of a curve-ball compared to the Van i 100% admit.

But if i say i looked at 200 vans on Ebay/Trader, i'm not kidding, from Vitos to Vivaros, Boxers to Berlingos and everything else you could imagine. Me and the boy went out looking yesterday at dealers and viewed both cars and vans.... the vans were around/over-budget and just absolute piles of shite.

If i thought we could get the Vito fixed easily and it'd give me years of happy motoring i'd have still been in on the deal.. But there were worries with the electrics that i am pretty sure could have been sorted, but it was sounding more and more like they'd be sorted at my expense later on. Whether that was £100 or £1000 i wouldn't like to say, but i felt it was likely to run higher rather than lower.

After that i started factoring in things like fuel economy, road tax, petrol/diesel and the Vito made less sense. I'm sure there'll be times in the middle of a muddy mountain in Wales that i question and regret this decision... but i've made it now and this is what's happening.
