Yup, surely it can't be that hard to make fluid tight bikes. The 2016 Duke tanks leaked and now the Husky's too.

And it doesn't seem the 790 leaks have been addressed at all. New bike still seem to have the same issues as launch bikes. Which is crazy.

Indeed it's a bit/lot crazy, what i can't work out is, when the dealer swaps say the output shaft bearing/seals, they seem to be OK, so why are they still using the rubbish ones in the factory.

Today was a commute to Reading to the office to sort a problem with some cabling. It was a good test of the bike as it's roads i know really well. Was most interesting as it's not a plush as the 690, but it's less bouncy, so more stable.... I guess it's the sort of road that shows the diffrence between types of bikes and suspension quite well. For part of the ride i wanted the best bits of the 690, for other parts i wanted the best bits of the XSR. I'm yet to be convinced there's an ideal bike for both aspects

I've put nearly as many miles on the XSR than i did in 10 months on the 690, which in itself much say a bit.

Another exhaust choice, though I think they are on the LOUD side

Wise choice IMO- think any exhaust that doesn't keep the cat on that (which is just about all of them I guess apart from the Yam-Akra full system) is going to be quite loud

Yeah i'm quite surprised how few of the choices retain a Cat, as you say, basically none of them. Apart from the super expensive one that is. Which isn't an option with so many other things on-going.

Not necessarily.
Swap (or even just remove) the standard can on , for example, an MT-10 and it really doesn't really get appreciably louder - the majority of silencing happens within the cat on these.

Has that still got the cat?
It looks very short, especially for a 900 triple with 300cc cylinders, looks like it would kill the mid range

So this was today...

My AVDB Engine covers turned up and were fitted.. Well, i say were fitted. They were actually NOT fitted as you'll see

Tightening the bolts up, the instructions say "Torque to 10Nm", so i set the torque wrench to 10, tighten it... I'm thinking 'are you sure' so i set it down to 8 and test, click. OK, so we know 8 is fine and it's a bit more.... Set the torque wrench to 10...

So we've now got the problem that i'm at Silverstone on Saturday and my bike is far from 100%. I'm taking the bike to MSG racing in Long Crendon to see an old mate Greedy to get it sorted before taking to Silverstone. I cannot put into words how frustrated, angry and downright pissed off i am right now !!!!

Been there, done that. In my expert opinion I suspect that won't polish out, neither will gaffa tape and zip ties help. Hope the "grown ups" can sort it out for you.

There's a good length of the bolt left proud of the gasket face, I bet if you took the clutch cover off you could get a pair of pliers or molegrips on it and it would come out easily enough. Whether you want to do that with a virtually new bike is another matter I guess.

Just an aside, why use a bfo torque wrench on a 6mm thread.
1/4" drive socket is all that is needed, 2 white knuckles.

WEll it's easy saying what i should have done, but i did what the Yamaha manual and the instructions for the cover said, which was 10Nm, sure it now transpires what i should have done, but i never...

Simple enough, well, that remains to be seen.. I'm at Silverstone on Saturday.... or not.

There's enough sticking out, they'll get that out no worries.

Yes if that's the way they do it, but that means clutch cover off, which then may mean a new gasket, which I won't see in time as dealer is out of stock. So would either be reusing gasket or goo.

I'm not sure what way he'll do it yet, I'm not sure I want to watch!

I know it's a bit late now but the max torque for a 6mm bolt is 11.8nm.
So 10nm is pretty close to it's limit........as you found out!
My rule of thumb is 1/4" to 11mm, 3/8" 12-15mm, 1/2" up to 45mm and a garage for anything bigger.
And i always grease up 1 side of a gasket, means you can separate the components easily to reuse a gasket....in an emergency.

I never fitted the gasket, it's a 400 mile 2019 bike

I was going to say something about torque wrenches and mechanical feel but I thought you would be pissed off enough without some old bugger patronising you
