Cars are just functional to me... I'd happily drive anything if it was reliable and nice... couldn't care less. But obviously with our activities it does have certain requirements it needs to fulfill.

CRVs do seem lovely and comfortable and plush to me though

Have you reset the error/warning? If so, maybe give it a week and see if it happens again. (But personally, I'd be tempted to trade it in while the warning light is off - particularly if the dealer will take part-ex). But you never know, you could get it sorted and it'll run for 100k without a hiccup.

Hmmm. I only know what I'd do really and my thinking is...that CRV is £10k and has 88,000 on the clock so could be heading for some bills, so I'd keep the QQ going for a while - if that light stays off - and plan to get a lower miles CRV at the end of this summer or spring next year. There'll always be another CRV.

If the light comes back and it's the same code, just get the £249 dpf clean. Far less hassle than buying another car that is an unknown entity and may have its own problems? No brainer to me.

I've got the cleaning guy coming out tomorrow. He also does a full diagnostic check pre and post cleanings to check it's not just the DPF etc.

I feel it's better than an £11,000 car today lol.

OK, so first diag done.

Engine soot is at 35% which the target is <11% (please forgive me if i use incorrect terminology at times here).

The reason for that is a failed lambda/O2 sensor at the top of the engine, it's get zero feed/input. So that's a good start for where it's going wrong. There's another one to check which he'll do next and he'll see how that looks.

Lambda sorted and the soot levels at 14% and dropping as it still continues to run through the cleaning process... Bloke seems really excited at all of this...

I still think "meh, it's a Qashqai" hahahahaha. But at least it should now be a working one.

well its now at 3% and he's gone away happy that all sensors, EGR, DPF etc are working as they should be

Well, part of that is the wheel bearing that i think needs sorting at some stage, i really ought to get that done/checked.

You obviously don't like the Gash Guy, sell it and buy a vehicle you do like, for all the bollocks about a car just being a tool you appear to want a better tool.

You're right, i don't.... but whether i dislike it enough to throw £10,000 at another car is very much open to debate. I guess my main worry is that the QQ has what i think is a wheel bearing issue and possibly pads (although 1 set was deffo done at last MOT/purchase), so shouldn't be too drastic. If i get those 2 things sorted then the car is perfectly fine... It's comfortable enough, but a little noisy on the road noise side of things.

I'll see what my local friendly mechanic says about that and what sort of cost it'd be....

If i can get that done and sorted for £200-300 then i'll happily keep the thing, it goes, stops, is comfortable etc.

Well i'll find out in the next day.... or two... Dave the mechanic some of you will have seen, he's got the unit next to MArk at Ride in Bike Tyres in Reading... both have been there forever. lol.

Daves a proper old school boy and doesn't even take payment by card.... so things like fangled electronics are outside of his remit. But this sort of thing of spannering and pulling bits apart is right up his street. The suspicion based upon noise, discussion and internet wisdom is 'drive shaft'

Dave isn't known for things like speed of turnaround, or giving you a loaner to get you home (hence my cycling yesterday). But he's cheap and he's very honest, he'll do exactly what's needed, no more...

I've changed them on a different car many years ago, I don't think it was a difficult job so hopefully won't cost a fortune.

Aye....he's got a few other little niggles to look at too, so i'm exepcting £700-1000 all in by the time it's all done.

I've told him i need it for the weekend as we're off to North Wales so it'll get a decent test as well.

If I read the dash in the earlier pic right it's done 75k miles. I think those half shafts have a limited life (think they were done a couple of times in nearly 200k on my previous car. I'd say (from the other issues and them ignoring the noise) that whoever had the car before you scrimped on the maintenance and probably missed some service interval stuff. Probably got it through the MoT and left it at that.

It's Catch 22 with cars like that, you chuck money at them so need to stick some miles on to recoup it...but you lose confidence in them and want rid (but probably won't get the money back on sale). I'd be on '3 strikes and out' with it. One more....

(But sod's law says the replacement will be no better and the buyer of yours gets 50k of trouble free motoring ).
