I'm happy to worship in any apostolic and catholic church... in fact I grew up worshipping in African Churches, and have since been to Pentecostal, Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran, Catholic, Free Church and of course the full fabric of C of E Churches. Not quite sure what you mean by it not being to my taste. I take services in Charismatic Evangelical Churches one week and then Anglo Catholic Churches the next.... in one wearing full vestments, in the other jeans and a clerical shirt. Apologies if I am being a bit dense, but your humour has passed me by.
I thought there would be less cooperation between the different religions, like they were competing companies.
Local context makes all the difference. I'm of the opinion that it is all the same. Sadly NI is a horrible mess of politics that has been given a religious fallout. Barmy in so many ways.

My mum, who is deaf, was describing her experience in her local hospital that morning when she went for a CT scan whereby the 'Chinese' nurse wouldn't take off her mask so my mum could lip-read, which was understandably upsetting for her. In regaling us with this story, my mum decided she needed to do the voice of said 'Chinese' nurse, like some Black and White Minstrel show from 1974, giving it full 'Ping, pang, pong,whah!'....

Awkward silence ensued. I know my mum would be mortified if she thought she'd caused offence to J, who she thinks is lovely, but I really don't think she thought anything of it.

True story - the year will be probably 1983 and my sister was about 4 years old. She trapped her finger in the door and managed to partially sever it at the first knuckle. Off to hospital.

This was Redcar in the 1980s. Purely white with no minorities at all.

At A & E, mother and sister get called in to the cubicle. Doctor appears from behind the curtain. Doctor is coloured, maybe from Ghana or the ivory coast. Sister screams at the top of her voice. 'Mam Mam, don't let the monkey touch me'. Mother just wanted the ground to open up and swallow her up.

History will tell you that it started with religion.

It always amused me that my DiL's C of E church was big on family. The Church of England's beginning of course was basically down to the break up of a family.

Why are there no Catholic Bishops in the House of Lords?

I thought the CofE beginning was down to a lack of family, sons in particular.

From fear of dual loyalty? The vatican was a more significant diplomatic power in the past than it is now.

Or the last vestige of the penal laws?

Are we still on old racism?

I was at night school in about 1994, on a management course and the lecturer was explaining Export Guarantee Credits. A fellow student (a manager at an MoD place) quipped: “Sounds like an invention of the Jews!”

I suppose a Catholic bishop would have to get a life peerage, to get into the Lords.

Mmmm, my bad, I guess I should have said the breakup of a marriage but marriage, family whatever, it wasn't started because of family values.

It's no good asking me slowsider, I clearly don't know why. That's why I asked the question.

Since your Google appears to be broken, it would appear that there is a Vatican ban on clerics sharing secular power.

That's us lot in N.I.

The Catlicks believe all the Prods are going to hell.

The Prods believe all the Catlicks are going to hell.

The Free PressbuttonBs believe everyone aside from themselves are going to hell.
Ignoring the NI bit (I know, not easy! But for my comment, bear with!!) - it's basically why I don't 'do' religion. Some of the other reasons -

Some of the most unpleasant people I knew when I was younger (including some family) went to church without fail every Sunday and that made everything ok

Going to a Catholic boarding school (as a day pupil mind!) as a kid was not a good grounding in religion - we were NON Catholics and segregated for any religious stuff

When I worked in a pub in the little city I used to live in, the vicar would come in most nights and get shitfaced and not be a very nice person. But on a Sunday (on the odd occasion I went to church) he'd stand up high and point down at the rest of us and say "YOU must repent, YOU must be a better person" etc etc.

I accept that some religious people are lovely and good. But I've met a lot of non religious people who are also lovely and good.

I can't believe in something that says that if we don't all conform to some centuries old writings, we are damned!! Surely people should strive to be kind without being threatened!!

But yes, I know that threats were an age old way of getting the peasants to do what the church/landowners wanted

One of my favourite downloads ever, that I listen to often, is Old Harry's Game. A radio comedy that has Andy Hamilton as the Devil and two opposite type of guys who arrive in hell at the same time! Makes me giggle every time :D :D :D

Still because of dual loyalty. Like Sinn Fein they probably would never be able to take their seats.
And for Henry 8th the family thing was just a catalyst, the original Brexit was likely to happen anyway.

Hartlepool - Redcar pretty interchangeable on the grand scheme of things :D

Catholic Bishops/Cardinals are not allowed in House of Lords as they are not part of state Church, CofE is the Established Church. We take weddings as legally binding events. Not so with other denominations. They have to have a registrar to sign off.

Comes down to the Henry dilemma of a male Heir and the political power of the Catholic Church and their interfering in secular affairs.

I'm afraid that too many are not exactly good examples of ministry or priesthood. I enjoy a drink, but I know when to stop and to stay sober. I also know that I have to repent before I ask anyone else to repent. Humility and grace go a long way in sharing faith and preaching.

But I'm not here to preach or proselytise etc.... I just enjoy motorbikes and the banter here! Also, having ridden with Noggin and being blitzed by her on a smaller bike keeps me humble!!! :-) Pembrey days are awesome!! I do want to try again for this year!

I'm gonna do my best to be there too!

I totally get that you are one of the good guys. And to be fair, I did try various denominations whilst trying to find somewhere I could believe, but only 1 (that I remember) was inclusive from the pulpit "we need to repent" etc.

I have no issues with the guy getting shitfaced - just the pointing at everyone else on Sundays!! LOL

See you in September - hopefully (I doubt I'll be blitzing anyone this year!! LOL) xx
