How much fire-wood do you now have ?
Unusually for me I stopped before a full on Donald Duck Mantrum so I must be tired😂. Now trying not to buy rubbish on the internet or opening bottle of cider.

Older people and their unintentional racism. I went to my mum's for dinner yesterday along with Mrs. G, the Gremlinette and her girlfriend J, who is half-Philippine and who's mum is a nurse in our local hospital
My mum, who is deaf, was describing her experience in her local hospital that morning when she went for a CT scan whereby the 'Chinese' nurse wouldn't take off her mask so my mum could lip-read, which was understandably upsetting for her. In regaling us with this story, my mum decided she needed to do the voice of said 'Chinese' nurse, like some Black and White Minstrel show from 1974, giving it full 'Ping, pang, pong,whah!'....

Awkward silence ensued. I know my mum would be mortified if she thought she'd caused offence to J, who she thinks is lovely, but I really don't think she thought anything of it.

Better than some of my family who are full-blown intentional racists.

I'm one of a few white English blokes in my company and I know for a fact that sometimes people pretend they're me and put a posh English accent on and have a laugh at my expense, sometimes it's even been done in front of me, but I know they don't hate me because of where I'm from or the race that I'm from, it's just taking the piss out of my mannerisms.

I had one bloke actually say to me (in front of a big gathering) that he considers me "one of them" and not a stereotypical white person, he added that he doesn't even see me as white anymore. I asked what he meant and he said that most white people are dodgy and I wasn't one of them
This man is my friend.

You can call that racist and I'm definitely a minority, but I'm not being disadvantaged or picked on, I don't feel like a victim, it's not malicious, just some talk based on stereotypes and a bit of piss taking - in fact most of it is genuinely funny.
Was talking about race in our Church meeting last night, we are a white majority suburban Church and we do have around 20% other ethnicities in our congregation. The "other people" said that as a Church we treat everyone the same and don't have racism inherent in our structure, but that is because we are aware that it is a problem and do our best to mitigate it. But the biggest thing is simply treating everyone the same, recognising that we are not because of our culture and class, and ensuring those things don't trip us up. Good humour and honesty goes a very long way when it is humour that is understood and recognised as being just that.

Imitating someone from a different part of the UK because "they talk funny" = OK, just a bit of fun

Has anybody ever seen a purchased copy of The Daily Star that wasn't wedged between the dash and windscreen of a shitty builder's Transit, in amongst discarded coffee cups and Greggs wrappers? I mean, seriously, who the fuck buys it?

Star and Sun are 'tea break' papers. Their role is to be consumed, much like the Greggs sausage roll, in a few minutes, taking concentration away from work.

We had an old girl who used to walk down my street and was best avoided unless you had a spar behalf hour. She was always coming out with crap like that. Her best one was when a black family moved in down the road. They got burgled during the days they were moving in and the Police showed up to take statement etc. Said old Biddy comes walking down the road and see's the Police car outside their house and looks at me and says, "That'll be drugs, you mark my words"!

Conversely, my local church, St. Paul's, Crofton (you may know it being from Sahf Luhnden) is slap in the middle of the whitest of white areas, yet has a largely black congregation, probably due to the Vicar, Bimbi. I have to say, when you walk past and the service is in full swing, it's a rocking place to be. I'm almost tempted to pop in myself sometimes.

That's a bit of a specialist place, not sure it will be to his taste.

Sorry? I'm happy to worship in any apostolic and catholic church... in fact I grew up worshipping in African Churches, and have since been to Pentecostal, Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran, Catholic, Free Church and of course the full fabric of C of E Churches. Not quite sure what you mean by it not being to my taste. I take services in Charismatic Evangelical Churches one week and then Anglo Catholic Churches the next.... in one wearing full vestments, in the other jeans and a clerical shirt. Apologies if I am being a bit dense, but your humour has passed me by.

I thought there would be less cooperation between the different religions, like they were competing companies.

That's us lot in N.I.

The Catlicks believe all the Prods are going to hell.

The Prods believe all the Catlicks are going to hell.

The Free PressbuttonBs believe everyone aside from themselves are going to hell.

Bit like big business, compete a bit on sales but strong links via the trade association to make sure no one rocks the boat.
