My 750 felt horrible when the rear tyre got squared off.

To be fair the OE Dunlops on the 1000 felt fairly horrible from day 1. I've been putting up with it but a flat spot as well is probably gonna piss me right off.

Having test ridden a GSX with S21s it felt lots better than the Dunlop OE.

Just had a quick look at Demon Tweeks and Road 4s are £250, Road 5s just over 300

I'm 3k into a set of Road 6s. It looks like I may squeeze another 2k on the rear. I'm happy with that. I'll buy another set,come the time.

I binned the original Dunlops just under 4k.

I got roughly the same mileage from Power 5s.

Wouldn't mind so much if I commuted on A roads every day but I mainly ride twisty b roads

Yeah,they all square off with road use. Most of my miles are country road/pleasure miles too.

The stock Dunlops weren't awful. They did the job when it was warm and dry,but very twitchy in damp conditions. Shit when squared off. There was life in the front when I changed,but I wanted a new set.

Michelin Power 5s are a great tyre and much better in variable conditions than the Dunlops. Seemed to hold the profile for most of the tyre life. Front will do 2 rears. 3-4k out of a rear.

I fitted Road 6s for the first time this year and I'm 3k in,so I don't have a full picture yet. They are starting to flatten in the middle,but this hasn't impacted on the handling much so far. I don't ride much in the damp or wet,but they've been great the odd time I've been caught out.

I think the 2ct dual compound helps the Michelin keep their profile longer.

Another 100 odd miles this morning through Finchingfield, Clare, Stadishall, Haverhill, Radwinter, Thaxted and back.

A number of road closures was annoying and the amount of gravel in the road was crap, made my riding all over the shop as didn't feel I could position myself properly in corners in case the middle of the road was a few mm deep in gravel :angry-cussingblack:

Tried turning the TC off and nailing it in 2nd to see if I could tell any difference, but I couldn't so don't think the TC is holding it back in level 1 at my skill level or even level 2. In level 3 the light flashes loads but haven't got it lit once in 1.

At 1996 miles now since I bought it in Feb and hopefully have another 1000 in me before the weather turns. Gonna phone tyre matey later today or Tuesday. I notice Metzler Roadtec 01 SE are currently cheaper than Road 5s at Demon tweaks so might give them a shot

Doesn't look like my Yeovil trip is gonna happen, certainly not this week anyway, so my mate is coming over and we are gonna take the nice route to Krazy Horse for lunch. Think we'll stop for coffee in Finchingfield as he's never ridden in Essex and feels like you should at least once.

If the Yeovil trip doesn't happen think I'll take a couple of days off and do some day trips instead.

Well that didn't go according to plan!

Left home and matey needed petrol so we went to Hoddesdon first and it felt like the bike was really heavy steering. I'd checked the tyre pressure the night before so shouldn't be that so maybe the flat spot was making itself felt?

Got petrol and turned on to the A414 to Harlow and again steering heavy round the roundabout, bit of acceleration into the outside lane and woo thats not right as the bars got in a flap. Slowed up and stopped in a pub car park in Gilston. I thought I might have a front puncture but nothing doing. So spin the rear and mate can't see anything until he said 'unless it's that' pointing to a little star shaped cut in the tyre. Bit of spit and no bubbles :think: tried again and this time run my finger across it and yup air pissing out :roll: placing finger on/off and you could hear air coming out. FFS. Tyre had got pretty hot too as surface looked like I'd done a trackday.

Seeing as we were at a pub the tyre got plugged and we had lunch. After lunch I decided not to write the day off so we went to Finchingfield anyway with me sticking to 65 ish. I know some people run plugs forever but sticks in my mind too much.

So now the tyre is definitely getting replaced. It's shit and bad luck! Not had a puncture since 2002. I've now had 2 in 4 months/1200 miles :angry-cussingblack:

Didn't think it'd be this difficult to get tyres!

Tyre matey is out of action for 3 months.
Pro Tyre Enfield no longer do bikes
Pro Tyre Dunmow only fit to loose wheels and it's 30 miles away. Was only gonna use them as you can do it all online.

So waiting on call backs from Raceways in Stevenage and Bikers Realm in Welwyn. I've used Raceways before and good family run business, Bikers Realm gets good Google reviews so let's see.

Asked for prices for Road 5 and Metzeler Roadtec 01 SEs. Think I'll go with the Metzelers unless the Road 5 are a fair bit cheaper as fancy trying them and they get good reviews.

So Road 5s for £360 or Roadtecs for £380. I've had Road 5s and liked them. Roadtecs win the tests. Tempted by the Metzelers but damn that seems like a lot of money for some tyres even though only £20 more.

Or Road 4s at £310.

All bastard expensive but seems that's the local prices.

I paid £100 for a Pirelli Angel GT fitted to a loose rear wheel, it's been fine and looks like it will last at least another 2000 miles, it's done 2000 so far.

I know I had them on the 690 and really liked them, I've had the 3s, 4s and 5s. The 6s are silly money.

Road 5's fitted last night :thumbup:

Only got to ride the 10 or so miles home in rush hour on a single carrageway A road with solid whites for much of it so not had a chance to see the benefits yet. But already feels like there is more feel to the tyres and better ride quality as well as the usual benefit of them not having a flat spot and therefore actually handling properly. In the office today so might try and get out later tonight or lunchtime tomorrow for a proper ride. Two really noticeable changes are the steepness of the profile and the depth of the tread compared to OE when new. Can't wait to finally get the benefit of some decent tyres on the bike
